The day I actually enjoy a beer is the day I turn 21
In battle, in the forest, at the precipice in the mountains,
On the dark great sea, in the midst of javelins and arrows,
In sleep, in confusion, in the depths of shame,
The good deeds a man has done before defend him.

ops... just did some research and sorath is correct. I was wrong :p. Sorath, have you heard of the boulevard brewery in Kansas City, Missouri? I did a tour/beer tasting and it was marvelous. I don't remember the names as the beer tasting was all you can drink but it was great! started off with an IPA beer that wasn't too bad and moved on to lagers and ales. Started off lighter colored beers and got darker and heavier as the tour went on. They were great! They weren't no pussy ass 6.2 beers either, their lightest beer was 8.0 and got up to 12.5 on some of the really heavy stuff. Tasted fantastic. There was actually only one I wasn't fond of but even it was decent compared to most.
the lightest beer offered by the brewery was 8 degrees? holy shit dude, that's some bold brewery! haven't heard of them, until now, haha! i don't think i'll find some of their products over here in france though

did you not like their IPA? IPAs are plenty popular in the states, and not at all in europe, which sucks, as i love me a good IPA in the afternoon. treasure that shit, man. anyone who thinks that the states don't offer any decent (excellent, world class) beers is a fool

what are you drinking now then?

try the belgian beers. afaik, france is good at wine but their beer is nothing special.

and fuck pale ale :|

I always buy in bulk and it's usually cheap booze since I drink so often and someone else has to buy for me. It would be nice to sit down in a bar and actually buy a beer myself.

I'm not I just can't justify buying a nice 1.75 of booze when it's gone in a week and a half. Once I stop binge drinking I'll buy much nicer stuff since the goal will be just to get a good buzz rather than to get smashed.

We're talking about vodka not beer. A 1.75 L of beer would be ridiculous :p

Honestly three reasons
1. Meet people
2. I like to drink (escape from reality)
3. My friends drink

I had two girls who I had been hanging out with over summer and at college that I liked to hang out with instead of drink. Kind of fucked that one up though. I used to blackout all the time when I drank and said a lot of stupid shit and ruined a lot of friendships. So yea we don't talk anymore.

Anyways, when I drink now I don't drink as much. Although I have been more lately. It's kind of a struggle. It's nice to get drunk and sit there and just pass out. Now that I type it out it sounds pretty bad. Oh well. So yea that's what I've been up to.

yeah being drunk is pretty nice, makes everything better kinda like weed.

but if you cant have fun without getting drunk then you need to figure your shit out cause that kind of life has never done anyone any favours

and obviously thats easier said than done. if you cant stop binge drinking, try smoking weed instead. youll feel less shitty the next day and its not as bad for you long term

Drinking and getting drunk isn't the problem (as long as you dont drive). It is not being able to say no to drinking when you shouldn't be, which is what a LOT of people have serious trouble with.

yes it is if you're drinking 1.75L of vodka in a week. newsflash: alcohol is bad for you.

the general rule is if you're starting to get drunk alone, you need to get your shit together. only a small step to alcoholism from there.

really, try switching to weed it's a great and relatively harmless drug to use while alone. i personally prefer weed when it's just me and my music or when i'm with close friends cause it really mellows you out, and alcohol (or both) in other social activities.

I've smoked a handful of times. It gets me too fucked up compared to alcohol, probably cause I drink a lot more than smoke. Not to mention it's expensive here and smoking is a pain in the ass cause they go hard in busting you.

And I haven't drank by myself yet, usually it's with one or two of my friends if it isn't on the weekend.

That is why I said it is the not being able to say no to drinking when you shouldn't. By yourself is one of those times. Getting drunk more than every once in a while is one of those times.

I myself have usually 1 beer every night to unwind and occasionally will have 2, but that is maybe once or twice a month. Sometimes I will drink a glass of 7&7 in place of the beer if it was a REALLY long day.

I drink enough to fail a breathalyzer test maybe once every 3-4 months. A beer a night followed by a dip is more than enough for me :) I would try weed if it wasn't still illegal here federally. If I get hurt at work I have to be tested for it. It would be just my luck that the one time I tried it, I would get hurt, fail the test and have all the doctor bills placed on me :S I can wait. Haven't tried it in 28 years, I am in no rush to try it now :D

Yea I just get disappointed in my self sometimes. If I had a case a beer I'd probably be digging into it right now. Taking shots by yourself is fucking depressing though.

I'd step away from both alcohol and weed; find something else that's really fun.

I don't know what your passions are but there's something to be said about finding a hobby and going all-in on that hobby.

Everyone should have something that they just can't get enough of. You have to be enough of a dreamer for that though.

I never drink alone, my friend Jack Daniels is always there.

Seriously though, like 95% of the times I ever drank were alone playing video games on Friday or Saturday night and only 150mL at a time. It's not that drinking alone makes you an alcoholic, it's that alcoholics drink alone and for the wrong reasons. I don't drink anymore because the novelty wore off so it seems like a waste of time. The more you drink the less fun it is, it doesn't work as a hobby.

Jack just join some student group if you want to meet people, friends you have to drink with to have fun with aren't good friends (I'm making an assumption there sorry if that's not true). They probably all feel the same way about drinking that you do and you're all supporting each others drinking through the group dynamic.

when i go to the bars here in rennes i usually get breton beers, which are excellent! but the one bar i go to most has mostly belgians on tap: tripel karmeleit, delerium tremens, gulden draak, etc. the brewery that makes gulden draak also make my favorite beers: augustijn and piraat. i think the brewery is called van steenberge

when i buy beer for my pad i usually get hoegaarden or leffe

so yeah i drink more belgian than anything else, i guess. still miss a good ipa.

heeeeeeeey there buddy, what do you drink for scotches? i've tried glenmorangie original, macallan fine oak 12, balvenie double wood 12, armorik original, glenfiddich 14, and oban 14

started with the balvenie.. i think i liked the macallan the most, maybe the glenfiddich.. but i had the bottles months apart so it's difficult to make a comparison

We hang out all the time outside of drinking. What you said about the group dynamic is probably true though. We try to do other stuff like play basketball but in the winter the gym is usually being used by varsity athletics (for some reason they only have one gym...) Once the snow melts there's a lot more to do I guess. And I am pretty bad at making friends outside of drinking...
