all right how's this been looking to mod my computer case a bit (for fun and shit). so i'm trying to cut the metal cleanly. it's not working out too hot so i google "how to cut steel" and find the most useless guide ever made: http://www.wikihow.com/Cut-Steel |

to cut metal I suggest using this https://www.google.com/shopping/product/10499591375596118451?q=grinder+with+a+metal+cutting+blade&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.61965928,d.aWc,pv.xjs.s.en_US.mRllcBPSixs.O&biw=1280&bih=653&tch=1&ech=1&psi=nlENU_6oCafeyAHnnoCgDQ.1393381795232.6&ei=yVENU7LFK6G4yQGc7oD4Bg&ved=0CKACEKYrMAs with this tool https://www.google.com/shopping/product/13771385396036939102?biw=1280&bih=653&output=search&q=DeWalt+Grinder&oq=DeWalt+Grinder&ei=AlINU4vOE8LWyQHwl4H4CQ&ved=0CIABEKYrMAE It is much easier to make streight cuts with little effort. I suggest you mark off your lines then cut the pattern. also, make sure that you clamp it down in some way. You don't want it shooting off like a pitching machine throws a ball... Saw a kid get his finger nearly amputated that way once when I worked construction no one told him to clamp it down...anyway, when you are done cutting it, make sure you grind the edges down to smooth them out using this attatchment to the grinder. https://www.google.com/shopping/product/13771385396036939102?biw=1280&bih=653&output=search&q=DeWalt+Grinder&oq=DeWalt+Grinder&ei=AlINU4vOE8LWyQHwl4H4CQ&ved=0CIABEKYrMAE It doesn't have to be DeWalt, it can be Millwalkie, Robie, etc. Just trying to give you some tips! |

yeah we have one of those. a bosch. german qualität. just like the jig saw, I have no idea where the fuck it is. though ryker keep in mind the cuts I'm trying to make as of now are like 1 cm x 2 cm. cutting a square into a metal plate. it's suble work i think. I often see people talk about "dremel" but screw that Edited by Incog, Feb 26 2014, 07:03 AM.

No, I would NOT use a demmel/rotozip on metal... cutting Plastic and glass are ok, and ETCHING ONLY into metal it works great, not for straight up cutting into metal though.

umm..... some metal? generally speaking isn't industrial use metals harder than glass? Glass is just more fragile. It may not bend but it cuts easier. |

ok i looked it up:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale_of_mineral_hardness it seems that glass is harder than steel but it's not harder than hardened steel (da fk). diamong being hardest i already knew. glass is very ductile (ie fragile) compared to metal though. it can't bend for shit but it's quite hard so difficult to cut. i think cutting glass (not breaking) requires the use of an even harder, diamond blade. |

No, i have always had success cutting glass in making a score mark and snapping it at the score mark over a straight edge or using a dremmel for curves. It is hard to snap glass to a curve or angle so it requires a tool of some sort. I have used a dremmel/rotozip historically and it works great. You just have to wear proper PPE like gogals, gloves, otehr things to keep tiny glass shards off of you if using a dremmel. |

no, a metal file actually... you just score it and apply pressure over a straight edge and it snaps where the score mark was. These work good https://www.google.com/search?q=metal+file&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=i88QU6TJApLiyAGaioGYBQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg&biw=1440&bih=815#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=5ScQxBT2cf2R6M%253A%3B6jOEZ1L93NThfM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fc.shld.net%252Frpx%252Fi%252Fs%252Fi%252Fspin%252Fimage%252Fspin_prod_810227412%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.kmart.com%252Fnicholson-7inch-slim-taper-file%252Fp-00936556000P%3B1800%3B1800 they also have these that do the same thing, some have diamond tips but must have harden steel disks that look like a small pizza cutter. (although I have had better success with files) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_cutter Edited by ryker, Feb 28 2014, 06:11 PM.

No problem. Like I said though, if you are working with glass, make sure that you cover yourself up with leather gloves and long sleved clothing that can brush off shards easily. Shards get everywhere when doing excessive ammount of cutting. I have gotten small shards on my hands, scratched my arm and cut my arm/finger tips all over. Last thing you want is that or to get them in your eye. Also, my tips ONLY work with non tapered glass. I have never worked with tapered glass before... |
