on the eve of a very exciting time. War is upon us. http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1z2mso/russia_says_it_will_defend_the_rights_of_its/ lol I watched too much house of cards I'm coming up with all these political conspiracies where some country like China was planning this all along. it's interesting to think though how a few conversations between some very powerful people can be crucial to all of us. being president of something must be hard as shit anyway I was in the shower, somewhat elevated is a way to put it, and was thinking about who my ideal friend would be (how i got there is probably a long story) and how almost none of the qualities i'd listed ever appeared in girls and most of them appear in myself. then i was thinking what if with cloning technology we can all create our (nearly) ideal friends by copying ourselves and that the next step (although kind of a huge leap scientifically) would be to make small alterations (take out the negative traits) and in due time create someone of the opposite sex with characteristics/interests that match our own. then that reminded me of an episode of black mirror (s2e1) that you should all watch and that i watched just yesterday that totally just inspired me to think of clones and then since my train of thought was apparently influenced by TV that reminded me how copying ones genetics wouldn't necessarily mean you'd have the same interests. i read in a review how it's ironic that the things that are supposed to bring us closer together are the same things that make it possible to never leave our houses. food for thought |

If you had a clone that was just like you, but without the negative aspects would it inspire you to be better or make you feel inadequate. Clone it with genes, kill it with fire. |

Sure, but it's always MORE active to go out with friends I think. If it's always more pleasurable to physically go out, why stay at home? Though I understand your point. I'm starting to slowly but surely step away from using the internet as a person rather than incog though. I mean, I'm relatively open and personal with you guys but that's it. I got rid of my facebook account and I have only a single irl contact on skype. Possibly because indeed, to make social activity more meaningful, I prevent myself from doing the "bare minimum" of having facebook and sharing music no one cares about. Thing is, what with the NSA and all that shit, I'm starting genuinely feel that you don't have any privacy online. So I'm just stepping away from it, only keeping a bare minimum (for irl relations I mean, not you guys since the internet is the only medium, at the moment, where we stay in touch). |

The situation's bad, but I also think it's ludicrous how so many people have suggested that this could lead to WW3. I'm personally glad that I don't have Russia as a next-door neighbour. |

it won't lead to ww3 (then again who really knows?), but it doesn't look like russia will back down and western leaders will have to come up with some kind of punishment especially after obama's little speech http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/armed-men-seize-airports-crimea-ousted-ukrainian-president-vows-russia-return-article-1.1705331 |

Obama isn't going to do shit. Since he has taken lead of our country, it has turned into nothing but the laughing stock of developed countries. So essentially what he is telling Russia is to stop it or else and THIS time we really really REALLY really mean it... FFS give me a break. USA is not going to do anything about it and the whole world knows it. |

if ukrainian and russian armies actually engage who knows what will happen? i can totally see the russians pushing through all of ukraine with the excuse that the current government there is illegitimate, although i think putin isn't foolish enough to do that. either way this has the potential to become an enormous clusterfuck and whatever happens won't do the economy any favours either. it does look like a diplomatic solution is likely though. ryker what do you mean the USA won't do anything? i'm pretty sure there will be all kinds of economic and diplomatic sanctions against russia. what do you expect the obama administration to do exactly? also FYI america has been the laughing stock of well developed european countries for a while now. i think it's mostly the general level of ignorance in america that is to blame, not its leadership although bush did hurt its reputation with his random wars. |

Putin used some initial confusion to take over Crimea without firing a shot so that Ukraine can't do anything about it without being seen as the initiators of violence and without giving Russia an excuse to take over the other eastern regions. Also Putin probably doesn't give a crap about sanctions, he's not the type to give in to pressure especially when he is able to increase energy prices in Europe. yeah it looks like putin only cares about crimea meaning that it's likely that an agreement can be reached through diplomatic talks, with in the end crimea holding a referendum and declaring itself independent or russian. but putin not caring about sanctions is quite worrying. what then, besides an army, will keep him out of the rest of ukraine should it come to that? edit: http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/1zfs3z/russia_delivers_3am_storm_deadline/ i don't know whether to believe that but still |

Really all Russia wants is sevastpool and some sort of buffer state. If they get the crimea which mostly speaks russian and was gifted to ukariane 60 years ago, I'm pretty sure this crisis will be solved. |

That is the thing GS, I don't expect the Obama administration to do anything. I have given up hope on them. I am tired of this country going down the crap shoot. We invest so much into foreign aide and welfare yet cut aide from our schools. We try to be the world diplomats when the world sees us as a joke. The only ones who don't understand that our nation is a joke is the ones running it because their eyes are green with greed. If we don't watch it, we won't be able to help third world countries soon because we WILL be a third world country. It is retarded. It pisses me off that I can go to McDonald's and tell the kid there I want 1/2 a dozen chicken nuggets and they tell me they only come in 4 and 6 piece. It pisses me off instead of pushing gifted kids to succeed and helping those that don't we do the equivalent of strapping lead weights to the feet of the fastest runner to give others a chance. I am tired of it all. I get that my grammar and spelling suck but I make up for that in other ways. I excel in math and science so I pushed myself to be better at it. It didn't help my grammar and spelling skills that they put non English speaking students in my English class to help them learn English. Am I blaming the school for my inability to spell? No, just saying it didn't help. I just don't get why everyone gets a medal or a ribbon because you tried. Life is full of disappointments and it is best to learn that at a young age when you still have your parents to show you that you are important and loved even if you didn't make the team. The fact is that when kids grow up, everyone doesn't make the team. You fail sometimes. In giving everyone that chance however, we have created a society of entitled dip shits who think they know everything and should get what they want with little to no effort. When they fail they don't know hot to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and try again but rather wait for someone to fix it for them. Ok, end of rant. |
