lol just change a few words and you get what I think about France at the moment. xD sad isn't it? Imo Ukraine will go into a civil war and Russia will just take advantage of the chaos to protect their own interests there. Gas supply and Sevastopool. Putin is looking to play out the situation to protect Russian interests. Who can blame the guy? I don't think that the West would be willing to go to war to protect Ukraine. Unless Russia does an actual full-scale invasion but I don't think that that will happen. Rather, Russia takes advantage of the turmoil. putin looks like an actual capable leader. I think he has some faults but I'm not sure what they are. |

No I personally think that we need to mind our own danm business... Obama should have learned from the Bush administration that we don't need to be the world diplomat when it isn't wanted by the rest of the world. I want him to shut up and worry about fixing this country and not everyone else' country. Who are we to fix or save a country when ours sucks. The point of my rambling was to show that our country is in no shape or position to fix another countries problems, we cant even keep ourselves in line. What ticks me off is that he SAYS back off or else there will be consequences, but everyone in the world knows they are blank threats. We are NOT the world leaders. We are NOT big brother so like I said, we need to mind our own danm business for a while. What he is saying is the same thing his administration bashes Bush for doing. The only difference is that Bush had the Balls to try to do something about it and not make blank threats. I think both are wrong but a backed up threat is better than a threat with no merit.... Sorry for giving the impression that I wan't him to do something more. I do but not in the way that you thought. Sometimes silence speaks louder than words. |

It's off topic but I don't see how it's uninformed bullshit. I don't know about how the USA is shaping up to be today, but the whole "idiots are getting their way" thing seems to be quite a real thing in France. Maybe Obama isn't as hot as he seems to be; it's not like we can judge from where we are we aren't in the USA. I believe in education, public transport, health care. I don't believe in social justice, where people are "entitled" to certain things. In France at the moment, there's an entire category of people who feel they are entitled (and they actually are) to ridiculous advantages compared to others. In the public sector, a train driver retires at the ripe old age of 55. Since this train driver works in the public sector, it's impossible for him to be laid off, unlike those in the private sector. If my father wanted to retire so as to get the most out of his retirement, he would have to work until the age of 67. That's a 12 year difference. The worst part is that my dad is kind of dying through overwork. I'm almost 100% certain that he's already knocked a good 5 years off his life span with the idiot amount of work he's been doing for the past 9 years. Every evening I see him he's ridiculously tired and stressed out. Monday mornings he'll often throw up any breakfast he tries to eat. Poor idiot doesn't even come home to his family every evening. All this for what? Some idiots in the public sector are entitled to a free 12 years of work? He has to go through this? MORE than half the money my dad's employer spends to employ my father goes to the state. MORE THAN HALF. More than 50% of the work my dad does goes to the state and he's still heavily taxed on what he's left with. An entitled public employee gets 12 free years and doesn't even pay taxes, why does my father have to go through this? Fuck that, lol. This is the tip of the iceberg. If I had hours of time to waste, I could go on and on and on and on and on about what a stupid place France is at the moment. You're being penalized if you work in the private sector and there are too many people in the public sector to justify their existence. The public sector could easily do 95% it does at the moment if it had 1/3 of its current employees. Where does all that money even go? You do realize that every time I go and buy some computer hardware, 20% of the money I pay goes to the state? It's 5% for food now. The government of France is NOT working in the interests of its people. It's a big clusterfuck of idiots who don't know anything, trying to desperately cling on the little power they have. http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/gerard-oregan/gerard-oregan-hollande-has-his-croissants-and-he-wants-to-eat-them-29917119.html So stupid. I hate "entitlement". Food, water, shelter, education, health care and employment should be entitled. Nothing else. |

what can i say, the world isn't fair. everyone knows that, but it's very easy to blame the people in power while more often than not they're trying real hard to make things better. being in politics is a really stressful and ungrateful job. i'm not saying they're doing everything right, but at least they're trying. are you? what it all comes down to is people are just assholes. it's impossible to build a society where everyone is happy. we're all greedy, selfish assholes. again, i see you and ryker complain and complain and bring zero realistic options to the table that actually would make things better. |

?? I do have ways to make it better. First is Legalize Pot. Colorado did it and they have significantly increased the state revenue because of it. They need to federally legalize it and stop beating around the danm bush about it. I have never used weed, never will even if legal. I have never smoked a cigarete either (although I chew tobacco). Just because I don't want to do it doesn't mean we can allow something that ins't as harmfull as one thought. Here are the bennifits of it: -It would cut down on Marijuana drug cartel -Stop pointless prosecution of people who use it so they can concentrate on the really dangerous drugs such as coke, heroin, meth, etc. -federal jobs would be created for regulation -plantations would create farming jobs -manufacturing jobs would be created (if they kept it in the USA and decided to make an already rolled version) -even with the federal jobs we would have to pay, the taxes we would gain from it would be astronomical, rivaling that of tobacco and alcohol, probably without a did in alcohol and tobacco revenue because people are already buying it, just illegally. -It would bring back the Hemp Industry. This would help the environment. This would save forest around the globe as hemp is much more renuable resourse for things like paper, rope, etc. Get control of Welfare -Stop giving free handouts because someone can pop a kid out every year. If you are on welfare you should NOT be allow to be on fertility drugs to get more children. -filling out applications should not be enough for unemployment. You should have to either accept job offers or justify why you did not. Filling out applications should not be considered a form of employment. -Why the hell are smartphones available through government assistance? They say it is so that they can "make a resume". That is bullshit. First off, these people aren't applying to jobs that require a resume, probably only an application if even that. Even if they do need to fill out a resume, they can walk their lazy ass to the public library and use one of the COMPUTERS to do it. -Why do food stamps allow you to buy things such as McDonald's, Candy, Pop, Lobster, etc? If you are on food stamps, buying pop and candy WITH FOOD-STAMPS at the local convenient store are NOT appropriate. Put more restrictions on what they an and cannot be used for, such as fruit, vegetables, bread, healthy things... -Why are illegal immigrants allowed government assistance when I couldn't get it when I was broke (see next point)? I needed it to get by until I graduated college. Most people on welfare are lifers who want a free ride. It should be used how I was trying to use it bout couldn't. Not how it is commonly used. They should put time restrictions of how long you can receive government assistance as it is something to get you by to better yourself. Maybe 5 years of assistance and after that to damn bad. -Foreign aide (including illegal immigration assistance) accounts annually for 3% of the total national deficit! I don't mean annual budget I mean Current Deficit. If we cut foreign aide for a few years we would automatically shave off 3% of the national deficit EVERY YEAR! It would actually be more of the current deficit as we went because as it got lower, that money would account for a bigger chunk. We educate illegals and give them free meals for free. Illegals get free healthcare. They get free food stamps and wick. They don't pay income tax. etc. etc. etc. GET CONTROL OF IMMIGRATION. Make them not want to come back, make it not worth the risk of getting caught. Stop getting involved in wars we shouldn't be in. Stop sending billions of dollars to Africa every year. I know without those supplies many would die but if we don't fix ourselves soon, we won't be able to help them at all ever again as we will be in the same shape as them. We don't look long term, we look short term. Help a little now and make the mass suffer later? OR a few suffer now until we get to the point we can financially help again and save the mass later? If you look at it logically the answer isn't hard. But our government officials are too stupid and ignorant (both parties) to realize that. I have hundreds of ideas and proposals that are better than anything they come up with but no one up there would listen to me because I don't have the right connections or the right friends in high places. |

a point i already brought up in a different discussion is that some people on welfare may be abusing the system, but that's just how it is. if you want to weed through millions of welfare cases and review each of them making a proper judgment over which of them is abusing the system and which of them is legit, do you realise how much money that would cost you? hint: a gazillion more than what you would save if you stop paying the abusers. sure, the system isn't perfect but a perfect system is not something you just build in a week. it takes years of trial and error. your argument is both uninformed and naive. stopping foreign aide is just a dick move. you can argue that america needs this money and you'd be right, but your argument about becoming a third world country yourself is completely untrue. there are people in this world who need that money desperately, not for a smartphone but for medicine or even food, and cutting them off for 3 years means that after those 3 years are up half of them will have died. your proposal to cut them off is not just selfish, it's inhumane. there is not nearly enough money going to foreign aide. weed is already being legalized bit by bit. that's just a matter of time at this point anyway even if your proposals were realistic which they are far from, draw up some bills that would actually make it through congress. the USA is not a dictatorship. also, a point of mine you failed to address is that the people in power are at least trying. all you're doing is observing and calling them incompetent. easy, isn't it? |

So when it was someone else it was inhumane but when it was me it was OK? There was a time I barely scraped by and had to skip several meals to make sure my kids had a proper meal. But its OK because I was a privileged white guy right? You know what? That is bullshit. I sacrificed and made something of myself. I was dedicated and got myself out of that hole. I needed help but I couldn't get it but I did just fine. There are ILLEGAL immigrants who got aide when I couldn't. I am sorry but 10K/year for a family of 4 is NOT enough, but we made due. We didn't have cable, new phones, new games, etc but we got by. I made sure my kids had a roof over their head, even if it was a shitty part of town in a falling apart rented trailer house. I made sure they had food on the table even if it was mac and cheese or ramen noodles. There are others who are ALLOWED to abuse the system when I was not allowed to even participate. THAT is bullshit. Everyone needs to be held to the same standards. If I could do it in 5 years w/o aide, someone else sure as fuck can do it with aid. As far as politicians, yes there are a few that are trying. The problem is that the majority of them are corrupt and don't give two shits about the country they run as long as they get theirs. They aren't in those positions to help and serve the country, they are their to feed their own political agenda. |

I am not referring to 3rd world countries in that comment... I am referring to illegal immigrants and lazy people abusing the welfare system already here. THEY are the ones I was referring to with the 3 year limit. If you receive a government assistance check, food stamps, or medical care, you have 3 years to use it to better your life in a time of distress. People like this: (I know I have already posted this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a780LGWG7to Now whether or not this particular person REALLY does it isn't the point. This is the thought process of MANY people, even people I know. It is crap I work, they take taxes out of my check to fund these waist of air people when I couldn't get the same assistance when I needed it. As for TRUE foreign aide, the majority of true FOREIGN aide is funding their wars. It isn't really to help the citizens of a country, it is for some political agenda. Do I think food drops to starved people is a bad idea? No... except the starving people don't usually get the food. The military leaders claim it and it never really gets where it is supposed to go. The medical care is a good idea but that alone is not enough. I am asking an honest question here as i do not know the answer and do not claim to know it. How many other countries help these countries? How much help do they offer? Africa has a government. It is corrupt. There are rich people in Africa. Why shouldn't they be forced to help? It is their country of residence after all. I have to help idiots in America who have babies and fill out job applications for a living PLUS help third world countries. Shouldn't the rich people of that third world country be forced to help also? Another BIG thing that contributes to the national deficit is america forgiving loans. They forgive the loans of all of these countries that owe it money ALL THE TIME. No one ever does it for us. Another country is defaulting on their loan we forgive it. If I default on my federal student loan or mess up my taxes I get put through the ringer with INTEREST! How is it fair that we forgive billions of dollars in loans for other countries but not the student loans of our own inhabitants? I could run for president (If i were old enough) but what would it to? I am unknown, no rich person or political party is going to give me money to campaign appropriately, and my views are not in alignment with corporate america. It is a fact that America (at least now) is the largest consumer of goods. I think we should tax the living hell out of companies that manufacture outside the US. So much in fact that it isn't any cheaper/cost efficient given the lower worker wages elsewhere. If they are taxed more they either have to eat profit or raise their price on the consumer. Companies who manufacture goods here would not have to pay this "customs" tax penalty to get it here in the first place meaning it would be more cost efficient to manufacture here even with higher worker wages. The middle class would thrive again, more jobs, more people paying into taxes, etc. it is a snow ball effect. Political leaders aren't trying to make america better (with the exception of a select few). They are feeding their own corrupt political agenda. |

the people in power are not trying. at least not in france. I don't think you're fully aware of what a sorry place france is starting to become. taxes taxes taxes taxes is all the current government is doing. for what? you still see unemployment not budging you still people in the public sector retiring at the age of 55. every time anyone has tried to change that it's been strike strike strike strike. you still our univerisities being of mediocre quality at best. we have no harvards or anything like that. this: http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303277704579348651776198462 our public debt isn't being fixed at all. we're in the middle of an economic crisis and people are still working 35 hours? it's fucking appalling. whether they're trying or not is irrelevant, they're completely fucking up everything they do. and what the FUCK can i do? i'm a 21 year old student. that's all i am. i'm not pulling the strings. yet I have ideas. you would have to lay off a few people in the public sector. do everything possible to reduce the amount of money being spent by the state. it IS possible, believe me. when i see train controllers (the guys who make sure you actually have a ticket/pass) they're always in teams of 10 or something. given the amount of people who pass through the area at a given time, only half of them are ever actually checking tickets at a given time. so there's already twice too many people in that situation at that moment. do you really think a private company would ever pay twice as many employees to do a certain task as needed? NO! they would think about how to allocate their resources. you often seen 2 train drivers in a train. one driving the train, the other just talking. just talking. it' sfukcing digusting. lower the amount of money it takes to employ someone in france. give companies an incentive to bring back factory production in france. my grandfather built a berlier trucks in the 60s. why is that gone now? cars aren't built in france anymore, they're built in africa. why can't they do that? reduce the TVA. basically, whenever you buy something, 20% of the money you spendgoes directly to the state. we're not a third world country (yet) so i don't see how the state isn't making astronomical sums of money just off of that. why can't they use that money to pay off public debt? WHY IS IT that instead, we're at the RECORD of public spending???! http://www.latribune.fr/actualites/economie/france/20130918trib000785689/les-depenses-publiques-atteindront-571-du-pib-en-2013-un-record.html it's a RECORD! IN AN ECONOMIC CRISIS? how can they not find a way to spend less money?? holy shit there are SO MANY flaws everywhere in the way things are run in france it's appalling. why not slightly reduce the amount of money given to the unemployed? not 50% or anything crazy like that, but 2% or 3%. there's little difference between €900 per person or €800 per person per month given the state the country is in. don't give me that shit that they're trying and we're not. everyone working person in france is trying their hardest to get through tough times, but the government simply isn't following through. http://www.performance-publique.budget.gouv.fr/fileadmin/medias/documents/ressources/PLF2013/rapport_depense_2013.pdf look at the graph page 24. we already had it wrong in 2011. this was before the global economy went to shit. look at that graph. our spending on army/navy/airforce is at 3,2%, education at 10,8%, health care at 14%. these numbers actually seem quite all right. until you see??! social protection? 42,6% WHAT THE FUCK IS SOCIAL PROTECTION? IT'S PRETTY EXpensive!?! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_protection_in_France basically if you get sick (you'd have though that this would go under health care, but whatever), or you lose your job or anything bad happens to you, you get paid for it. solidarity. sure. why not? it's a good thing to have. everyone gets ups and downs in life and it's a good thing to help those in their downs. but when you see 42,6% of the total amount of spent? either half of france is retarded or there are people clearly playing on the system. including the costs of operating expensive aircraft, ships and maintaining nuclear weapons, while also employing 300 000 people, france spends 3,2% of public money in the defense sector. how on earth are we spending more than 10 times that amount on people who are supposed to simply be in a "down" phase? this was in 2011, BEFORE we had the economic / unemployment crisis. lol. something is wrong here. we don't even see the numbers for public debt. don't give me shit about the government trying anything at all, don't give me shit about how my parents or actual french people aren't trying. raising taxes, sure why not? if it helps the country get out of this mess, then fine. but seriously? the government is driving france straight into the ground. and it fucking shows: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2553979/Francois-Hollandes-approval-rating-hits-record-low-crumbling-economy-stories-love-life-hammer-credibility.html our lovely fat president spends more time frolicking around with a cute blonde actress than solving anything. prime minister is a joke. everyone hates the government, except the 19% who are being paid monstrous sums of money by the government. those under social protection. If you want to get out of the economic crisis, you have to slash the amount of money you spend. Every little bit helps. they're increasing public spending and making the weight being pulled by those working even heavier. i'm not saying people who don't have a job suck or anything. i'm sure there are lots of people who would like to have a job but can't get one today. in france obviously. problem is, if less people work, there's less tax money to go around to help those in need. so you have to reduce the amount of money given to each person in need. the cake doesn't get bigger because less people are there to help bake it. |

if only it were that simple ^ thats pretty much my only thought when reading these posts. and this "If you want to get out of the economic crisis, you have to slash the amount of money you spend" is not necessarily true and can even have a negative impact. cutting spending is important for the long run, but for short term recovery (like andy said) it's crucial to inject as much money into the economy as you can. |

You could, on the other hand, say that spending cuts would only make the problem worse. Public sector job losses and reduced demand for goods and services would lead to increased unemployment. You would have more people claiming benefits, which would lead to an even greater need for sustained public spending. |

inject it by investing into production, not handing it out for free. if you invest into a factory, you can use the factory to process materials and produce wealth. if you give money out for free, wealth isn't being created, it's being distributed. of course these ideas are stupidly "simple". of course it's not that simple. it would take several people working full time to find real solutions. however real solutions aren't being found, it's that simple. if the government wasn't full of idiots, they could take a step in the right direction. they aren't! saying "cutting spending is important for the long run, but for short term recovery (like andy said) it's crucial to inject as much money into the economy as you can." is just "simple" as saying the government isn't headed in the right direction. |
