^So that's what two people under fire sound like. These were night raids made by the RAF during WW2. This is audio footage of them during a raid. it must be fucking nerve-racking knowing that the search lights are looking for you.

Most crews didn't survive to their 35 mission tour completion... on average approx. 7.5% of the bombers in a given mission were shot down... the crews were able to do the simple mathematical calulation which told them they were most likely going to be shot down.

life is so damn fragile

Amazing recordings, they really show how people use humour to keep themselves composed in such circumstances.

these blokes were our age as well. just mad respect for these guys

it's like

kids my age were fighting wars in huge, complex 4 engine bombers (or fighters, whatever) and here I am, same age, sitting in front of a computer.

They fought and risked their lives so that you could have the luxury of spending all day doing virtually nothing.

^we should be thankful a hundred times over that that conflict ended up being so bloody that we haven't had a major war between western nations in quite a while. last time was the falklands?

we're lucky to live during peace time. i'm sure all those guys would be happy knowing that we are. it's important to forget, taht's all

i have to admit i have a hard time caring about stuff like that. there have been such an insane amount of freak occurances in the past that put us here on this earth in 2014 that some random war 70 years ago really isn't that relevant at all. i hate to be that guy and be all like everything is relative (do i, really? idk), but human wars so are. sure it's nice not to be in one of them but i really can't pretend to feel lucky about that when there are a billion more things to feel lucky about, like how about that time that this rock hit another rock and formed our fruiting planet.

Last I checked, human lives were worth a fixed middle-income salary and social welfare benefits.
