as in i want to let off steam. misleading title eh? GAR i'm SO frustrated atm. everything's going wrong. i have this science report thing that was due... yesterday that I've barely finished 1/3 of. normally it's groups of two people who do this report over the course of the year. I'm ALONE because the guy i was paired with must have stopped his studies, haven't seen him for months. so i'm done putting most of everything together to make it coherent, but it's taking FOREVER to type and i'm SHIT at typing and expressing myself in French (at least compared to English). qsmjcmqodjifmijefqf the project is already a day late, and this project had its due date bumped back 4 days already. so frustrating. it took me hours just to finish typing the first part; the simplest part as well. nqsdmfkjqsdmfkjdmqf zerkjargh in the mean time, next monday/tuesday i have 4 exams i need to get good grades at or i'll have wasted a year. i'm so sick of studying and of solving equations. none of the material presented is beyond comprehension but it's so hard to work on something you don't give a fuck about. so hard. i also needed a summer jobish thing to validate my physics degree, the guy who i had asked to employ me for this fucked me over last minute and i need to find a new one fast. thing is it's next to impossible to find such a job on such short notice. so even if i somehow finish the project and hand it in no more than 2 days late (fuck it, being late sucks) and somehow manage to find the time to study for the exams before next monday/tuesday, it'll all be for jack shit if i can't find a fucking summer job to validate my degree. so i'm slightly annoyed atm /steam |

i'm not sure why i hate studying so much. i study some interesting stuff but for some reason i can't stand the idea of going to uni, going to class, sitting in a class with some smelly fat teacher explaining some stuff that could have been interesting if a smelly fat fuck weren't the person explaining it. i also highly dislike the idea of being forced to work during the evenings when i get home. i just find it weird that i'd dislike studies so much. i don't consider myself a lazy person but for some reason i just can't stand the idea of going to classes and shit. it's driving me half nuts. the very thought of me having to continue doing so fills me with dread. i don't mind working, but i just can't be fucked to be graded and i can't be fucked working at home when people irl do their work at their work and do what they want when they get home. or maybe i'm a bitch |

fucking feel you man i couldn't get myself to work for any studies ever. i just couldn't for some reason. i've also never understood this because i was studying really interesting shit but for some reason i was always incapable of actually putting in some work. luckily high school was easy enough to get through without working but as soon as i got into uni shit started piling up and not getting done and within a few months i was too far behind to even understand what they were saying in class. now that i'm working full time i am able to put in the work. this because 1. responsibility; if i don't work, without question it'll come up to bite me in the ass later. and 2. it's WAY MORE FUN. as long as you're doing something you don't hate, working is so much more rewarding than studying. i'm fixing shit and building networks for people to use. at the end of the day i feel like i actually accomplished something and i think that is the most significant difference. |

Hey man, sorry. That sucks. College just isn't for some people. If you don't want to do it, or cant see yourself doing it, then trust me, it is better to not invest a shit ton of money and time into doing it. Are you already in college or getting ready to graduate from highschool? Either way, talk to your parents about it. They might be mad or upset but would respect you more for talking about it to them than rather dropping out. As GS said, find something you enjoy or at the very least, don't hate. You work at work and then do what you want afterwords. |

french unis and american college isn't the same thing. french unis only cost 400 ish a year. cost isn't the issue here. also ryker, and the rest of our american friends, how does college even work? the way i feel it, if you're looking for a degree you have to take a few classes (you choose which ones you take, no?). how do they grade you? written multiple answer tests? papers? because as of right now, in my studies, you get 1 test, maybe 2 tests per subject per semester. so if you fuck up, there's no fixing it. there's no way to make progress. this annoys me SO much. at least in high school when you got a bad grade you could do better next time. these tests are like, at most, 2 hours long so you have to really go through questions fast without thinking. which I somehow think isn't relevant irl when you're working on something. sigh |

WTF are you serious? for real? 400ish/semester??? WTF is wrong with my fucking country!!!! http://www.collegedata.com/cs/content/content_payarticle_tmpl.jhtml?articleId=10064 http://www.cnbc.com/id/101531304 Anyway, you choose a major. All majors require general education classes, lower level math, English, and science. These gen ed classes are pretty much a re-cap of what you should already know from high school but are required unless you test out of them. (To test out of them requires a fee not surprisingly). Beyond these classes, depending on the major you choose, each college decides what classes are required to graduate with that degree that include upper level classes. I will use my college with a chemistry degree for example. for a chemistry degree, you are required to take at minimum, the following. Gen Ed Classes o Basic English o Basic History o Basic Math including Algebra and Trig o General arts electives (you choose these) and can be a range of pretty much anything Biology Micro Biology Physics I/II Chem I/II Organic Chem I/II Spectroscopy Bio Chem Physical Chem Inorganic Chem Calculus I Several higher level science electives of your choosing o Advanced O-Chem o Advanced Physics o Advanced Physical Chem o Advanced Inorganic o Advanced Biochem o Biology II o Micro Biology II o Cosmology o etc A few higher level mathematic courses of your choosing o Calculus II o Statistics I/II o etc So in essence you can choose some but it is limited, at least where I went to school. To pass each class, you usually have a midterm and a Final, each composing of 25% of your grade for a total of 50%. Another 25% is usually homework or quizzes, and another 25% is either labs or projects. It is up to each teacher however to decide the grade weights. Some put a small percentage on attendance, while others weight random pop quizzes heavily to encourage attendance. It all really depends but the final and midterm was always at least a combined 40% of your grade so if you bombed one you brought yourself down at least one letter grade, and if you did poorly on both, you might as well re-take the class. All for a hyped up piece of paper you spent thousands of dollars on to be in debt for the rest of your life over . |

kek Incog, don't you have the option to re-sit your exams or repeat the year? I know with A Levels at least that if you screw up one of your papers you can re-sit it endlessly until you achieve your desired grade. |

France isn't ALL fucked up. is it? Though in France we have bias towards everything that isn't the top (the work force) so once you get there people just leave. http://www.rtl.fr/actualites/info/international/article/l-etranger-attire-toujours-autant-les-jeunes-diplomes-francais-7769247193 btw ryker it's 399,10 for a year, not semester |

The Real
|
So many feels. I was the opposite in a sense, I was more than willing to put in the hours of work, but I have to work a lot harder because I don't have the natural smarts. Also I agree with GS about work, it's very rewarding. As long as you're in a job where you can develop and you're constantly learning it's pretty fun. I wake up every morning, jump out of bed and don't even think twice about going to work. I don't even complain. Such a great feeling, make sure you put in the work and find a job where you can say that/ |

Just finished my sophomore year of uni and I'm getting so bored of class. I feel like I'm learning nothing just sitting there. I've learned way more by just living life at uni that sitting in a room with a prof lecturing at me. |

The real gain is dialogue. Talk to your professors and try to engage in conversation with them. Ask for good sources of information, reliable authors, good journals, etc. At least in my experience, people were happy to help. |
