Hey everyone just wondering what other toyota gearboxes are a direct fit into the ae111, looking to change mine as its cracked and leaking oil and c160s are really hard to find.
Thanks

C56 is a direct fit (it's the 5 speed that came with the car).

I think that some of the mounts are different, even if the box came out of another Levin or Trueno. Whatever box you get, you'd probably want to get the mounts with it to be able to make them fit against the AE111.

There's a few guys on here that have done gearbox swaps (C160 to C56 and vice versa, auto to manual swaps etc.) have a bit of a hunt around and you'll get a better idea of some of the differences in mounts.

If i change from a 6 speed to a 5 speed will I also need to change the ecu? I'm honestly considering getting the c56. Do you know what other corollas a c56 is out of?

I'm pretty certain that the car will run with the 6 speed ECU in it but it might not be as perfect as if it were using the 5 speed ECU. As I understand it, the 6 speed ECU possibly pulls a little bit of power when you change gears to protect the box. But I read that on the internet, so who knows.

My car is currently running a 5 speed ECU, but it's a 6 speed BZ-R. I swapped in the 5 speed ECU when I was having issues with bogging, to check that the ECU wasn't at fault. The car runs fine, no apparent issues at all.

You'll be able to retain the stock ECU

To run a C56 you'll need to replace the mount bracket on top of the gearbox. Look for a manual 1998-2001 Corolla liftback (7AFE AE112) and grab the bracket off that, it'll work with the mount hanging off your chassis rail and the C56.
