Hi everyone

Does anyone know if a rear strut brace is made for our cars?

TRD do these "rear stabiliser bars".

http://trdsales.toyota.co.nz/shop/product.asp?catcode=273

The part no. is 48830-AE051 for the AE111. It looks like this...

Besides that, the only others I've seen have been custom made jobs...

Hmm looks like a Swaybar to me...

By strutbrace (its probably a local word we use)

I actually mean a brace that goes between the strut towers.

I've seen a picture of a levin somewhere (probably on cardomain) with a strutbar going through his parcel shelf (barely missing his speaker grilles in the back too i might add).

Closest thing I've seen for sale is made by Do-Luck

http://www.nengun.com/do-luck/rear-cross-bar

That bar alone is 500 Australian dollars...

But you guys have a local Do-Luck distributor I heard on a forum (do-luck.co.uk or something?)
All of our parts in Australia need to be imported.

Nice stabiliser bars... I'm not sure if I buy TRD ones or Cusco... I'm told Cusco are much stiffer

Oh I see, an upper strut brace, I've never actually seen one of those on an AE111 before!

It seems pretty expensive but I presume they don't sell very many and didn't make them in a mass quantity and the price usually reflects that. Something things like group buys will really help with when we've got more members etc. because we can cut the price significantly on hard to get bits!

It may be worth phoning around and seeing how much you can get one custom made for...there are few company's that can do that kind of thing and make you a one-off, usually cheaper than you think!

hmm good point

http://www.do-luck.co.uk/do-luck_rxb.htm

Thats do-lucks UK link for that rear cross bar.

Lucky guys being able to order stuff!

Half the Australian price for that cross barr (from Nengun... an importer) was shipping.

I like the look of that do-luck item, it anchors to where your seatbelts are anchored behind your front seats... prevents middle chassis flex.

If you can find them considerably cheaper in the UK I could always order one and then have it shipped from me to you...I'm in the transport division at work and can usually get quite reasonable shipping costs from the companys we use.

Likewise if there's anything you want and you can't get shipped to Australia I can try and help you out.

By the pic it looks like that bar goes across the floor not the strut towers. In the levin the towers are under the rear shelf.

Yep your correct there, that Do-Luck bar anchors to the bolts that hold your seatbelts in, to prevent mid chassis flex or something.

It was the closest thing I've seen to a rear strut brace for sale lol.

Looking on Yahoo Japan still reveals nothing... although the question has to be asked would a Rear strut brace even be any advantage, considering the car is a coupe not a hatchback

I have my seats out and i will show you a pic of the rear towers, it would be 99.9% impossible to fit a strut bar! 100% if you wanted to keep the rear seats in!

Yup id agree with that. You'd defo need to take out your seats to fit a rear strut bar!

*Stratches idea off the list*

Okay so Front and Rear Swaybars... Cusco's sweet looking lower strut brace (the type 2 one), a TRD upper strutbrace, and a Do-Luck Middle stabiliser bar... And that should be all the stabilising it needs before I lash out on coilovers... Sounds good?

Wow the money I'm planning on spending on my little beast is adding up....

Then again... not many cars handle like these things do... its worth it (I'm planning on keeping it a while, even if as a second car once I purchase a V35 Skyline)

Haha I know the feeling mate, my list is slowly adding up.

Great little cars though, I reckon I'll also be keeping it even when I get a new car.

if you're super keen for a rear strut bar measure up a piece of pipe and weld it between the towers, it'll look like a rally car too!

No rear brace is made since the top of the rear struts is surounded by the parcel shelf steel... so your out of luck fitting one.

Best buys you can do asides from struts/springs/coilovers...

TRD 3point front strut brace
Whiteline Adjustable Rear swaybar (with urathane bushes)
SuperPro urathane front swaybar bushes

What whiteline swaybar fits an AE111? I was told they dont make anything to suit...

Would Whiteline ones be better than say, the TRD items?

i've been told that whiteline will custom make stuff if need be, they have a good name for quality too, and suspension is their game, better than trd though? I dont know, they are both aiming to the same job in the end, probably made from the same materials, anyone have either?

I have a whiteline what it has over the TRD is you can adjust it and set it up to your driving style. They remove the understeer very well an nice tight turning at speed. If you want a front aswell you have to go TRD.

There is a corolla one that fits ae101/ae111
If you wanna know more Ill go find the box for a part number.

Im not sure if it will fit BZR as TRD say there one wont fit from 97 on... Yet I have seen a trd one fitted to a BZR and he didnt have issues...

I've got a 95 BZG so i imagine it would fit. If you wouldn't mind digging out the part number it'd be much appreciated. Whiteline parts are normally quite reasonably priced as well as good quality

Needs to Try Harder
As regards the rear 'tower' strut bar- I have also seen one somewhere...might have ben on Cardomain...can't remember. Think it was custom/adapted from something else- sure the lad had harnesses attached to it too! Wasn't sure how strong it'd have to be for that...wouldn't want to compromise seatbelt safety......

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-06-Lexus...sspagenameZWDVW

looks better and would aid in mid/rear strengthening....if you don't mind losing rear seat use
