First of all, check out this short video clip... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkY19r5InAc&feature=related Secondly, what kind of system would get a sound close to that...
I absolutely love that noise, but a lot of exhausts seem to be too deep and boomy. I love the high rasp of that system on the DC5...sounds like some Italian exotica! Don't get me wrong, I do like the deep rumbles of the Impreza's etc. but nothing beats that sound in the video. Is there a particular shape/size of backbox that will 'cause the note to be higher and raspier? Which systems sound close to this one? |

Oh yeah...we need to get a thread and have people (including myself) create an Exhaust video thread so we can all check out some stuff..

Yeah a thread like that would be brilliant. I'm just after the really high raspy noise just like that DC5, I'm not into the deep burbling farty exhausts. I like the Impreza's note but not the imposter's! Never sounds right and does your head in on the motorway droaning away.. |

I have the Fujitsubo Legalis R and its not too loud. Quiet at low revs and a nice rasp when the revs pick up. It also DOES meet the Japanese regulations as it is JASMA certified. Not as loud as alot of other ae111 exhausts ive come across. |

That's exactly what I'd like. Let me know how the Prelude system goes, if I order one of these systems from you we can do a before & after on the dyno.

rasp is not the best sound to have... but each to there own... having stuff all mufflers on a 4age will give you rasp, using S/S pipe and end muffler will also give it a tone change |

Closest I'd say probably the Kakimoto Fullmega N1 (Not the Kakimoto-R) or the Apexi N1
Kakimoto N1 - http://youtube.com/watch?v=ynQVshKzvNw Apexi N1 - http://youtube.com/watch?v=nzKrk5IeVCc (Laugh at the sync between picture and sound :P) I'm tossing up between these two and 5Zigen A-Spec Like saying do i want to go deaf or be kind to myself and those around me... Decisions decisions...

The Kakimoto N1 sounds incredible.
Where can you get this system for the AE111 then?

You love it too? =D Should hear the Fullmega Dual N1 on a GT-R, its beasty XD Back on track... Thats the difficult part I think, not many in Britain deal with Kakimoto Racing, but grap your local importer to help you there. Kakimoto Racing website Link You could try RHDJapan, Greenline or Nengun as they seem to deal with Kakimoto Racing. |

The DC5 probably has a spoon system. they are VERY raspy but very loud. Little dinky can: ![]() I heard a new shape celica the other day with a Very raspy exhaust. just rasp from about 3k to the limiter. very straight threw i'd say. |

If i remember correctly the buddy club spec 2 is just a straight through exhaust, ie no silencers or back box. When I get the system I'll make one for you Francis.

aka Hyper Rev 4...
|
I got the BC II of a friend of mine who used to import their products into NZ... But he's closed the shop and went back overseas... It's not that expensive either for a stainless steel exhaust... compared to other brands in Japan... The BC II has a baffle/hot dog/silencer in the centre main pipe and a 10cm detachable silcener at the very back, done a dyno with and without that piece.. makes very little difference in power... only 1-2kW difference at the very high end of the power curve... Here's what the exhaust looks like... ![]() There are 2 springs included to hold the pipes together... you can leave them off since my one broke so many times that i just weld the 2 pieces of pipe together... I also added an extra silencer where the cat used to be since i need it to pass the exhuast testing done by Low volumn cert guys... so just got it at 95db... ya pass that... no more excuses to the pigs..... |

I have a buddy club spec 4 fitted. Extremely quiet at low revs, you don't even know you have an aftermarket piece fitted until 4000 rpms
then the beast comes alive.

Newer designs like BC 4 is designed to be bit more quieter, since older ones are too loud and in the past the restrictions weren't that bad but now most Japanese aftermarket manufacturers have to comply with JASMA or some kinda of law for overseas markets too.... so now days not many companies make extreme exhausts anymore.... very seldom now... |

Hmm interesting thread... I have no sound at work at the moment but eager to here how these cars sound. Are the usual HKS and Fujits.. still mental money for these cars? Do you noticemuch change in throttle response or torque when removing silencers? Whats the standard system like? Most trueno/levin owners go the for *loud* option? Anyone ever gone to a custom shop to get one made up (I know they can be boomy) but was pleasantly surprised by one made up for my legnum.. well quiet on tickover very muted deep note... only roars at top end Cheers D |
