Do I need a special boss kit for the AE111 Levin/Trueno to fit an aftermarket steering wheel and if so where can I get one from and for how much?
 Also can you get offset or extended ones, as a bit more leg room would be great. |

yes you do need a seering boss. but a corolla one will do, most toyotas use the same setup. looking about 50 quid i reckon. just make sure you get the one for either the center horn or 2 outer horns. (2 different types depending on your kind of car horn) you should be able to get it in halfords |

I got the outer horn. So a Corolla steering boss for the 2 outer horn steering wheels? Part No by any chance?

dont think there is a part number cos there are so many companies that do them. just go into halfords or better yet a decent motor factors and say you want a boss for a (your year) corolla. take your wheel off first and look at the splines and get an idea of the size of the hole. thats what i did for my alfa when i had it. think i got a honda boss and it fitted. |

Also what do you do about the airbag? I'm guessing... Disconnect the battery for half an hour, remove steering wheel carefully, unclip airbag connection, and clip it back to the adapter on the new wheel/boss assuming it'll have one?? |

You do realise if you go from an airbag steering wheel to non-airbag, it's an automatic insurance void? (just to let you know) |

Not if you declare it. My old insurance company were fine when I did it on my last car, just had to pay a bit more. |

its not that sensative. like i did on the alfa, just unscrew it and remove the cable. its a replacable part so you just need to unclip it. DONT CROSS ANY WIRES and try to find someone who can take it cos its still explosive. i still got mine sitting in my shead though. |

it never had an air bag, honestly mr. assessor! meh, that'll be my excuse anyway. for god sake don't buy an aftermarket wheel with an air bag, they look gash! the airbag warning light will come on when you disconnect it all if your new wheel doesn't have an airbag, just remove the bulb. |

I thought most boss kits or aftermarket wheels usually have a connector to connect the airbag sensor thing too which will keep the light from coming on? Failing that, out comes the bulb. |

Yeah, I would take Kyle's approach (as in no airbag to begin with) |

the circuit isnt complete untill there is an accedent. if the light is on then there is a fault. you shouldnt need to have a connector at the end of it. |

To be honest I doubt any MOT tester would be able to get the exact original spec for any of our cars anyway. I believe it's not even on their systems when they check what the emissions should be. |

I think it's just sort of a connection that tricks it into thinking the airbag is connected? I had one for my Focus, my new wheel had a connector for the horn and also for the airbag connector. Connected the airbag connector to this connection on the wheel and no light! Kind of like when you have to earth the handbrake cable of a DVD headunit to allow it to work whilst driving? Something like that. |

I didn't mean MOT, I just meant in terms on an accident the insurance company may be funny. But If it's declared tis no problem anyhoos, in theory (also, you going to ignore my PM all day boss?) |
