if its a foam filter, HKS usually are, then they are not re-usable and i wouldn't advise cleaning it. new filter elements for HKS are about £30 so it won't break the bank. |

i really wouldn't advise it. petrol will have weakened the foam and chances are, under a vacuum, it is going to come apart. let that get sucked into the intake and you will have some serious problems. |

Some filters are re-usable with the right cleaning/re-lubricating solutions, some are just a throw away job and buy a new one. K&N filters are serviceable, you can buy a kit with some cleaning fluid and some filter fluid and make them as good as new. |

DO NOT USE PETROL. Had a HKS green foam cone filter in my glanza and went to clean it with petrol and it came apart in my hands. Use some compressed air and spend a good wile at it getting as much dust off it as possible then run it under the tap and leave dry for a while |

Washing them in a strong soap and warm water is all thats needed, dish washing soap is a strong de-greaser so it removes the filter oil meaning all the dirt comes out... then you just have to dry it and re-oil it, any solvent will eat foam.. think about it, Also be carefull of using compressed air as it will push any dirt deeper into the filter and also can blow holes/pathways through them. |

i think you can't clean the HKS filter, have to buy replacement filters... but if you really want to clean it yourself to save bit of $$$... then do clean it (with dish wisher detergent since it's not so strong and gets the grease out) from the inside out.... if you know what i mean... so that when cleaning the filter, the dirt doesn't sink in any further... try running water from the inside out too... |
