Start with the obvious really by checking the tyre pressures and the power sterring oil and even the belt that runs the pump. How big are the wheels? |

Tyre pressures first as mentioned above...but if you've come from a car with particularly light steering it might just seem heavier. What did you have before? |

checked the tyre pressure had a corolla e11 before there is an odd noise alright sometimes a rattling noise when steering while not moving but its not the ss it sounds like its comin from the fan belt side.shouldnt be bad as its just been serviced and had timing belt changed its only bad when at slow speeds.

dont forget that the car has variable power steering too. so the higher the revs the harder the stering. and it shows at low revs |

Have the exact same problem with mine..Its extreemly heavy at low speeds setting off. And sometimes a kinda slight whirring or a clunk noise.. Checked all the links in the super strut and everythings tight so this has me stumped where its coming from. |

Maybe your pump is just on it's way out and isn't making enough pressure at low speeds?
 Don't really know that much about power steering, you could always go get it checked out...an MOT tester would be able to tell if there was a problem. |

you'll definately know if its your power steering pump gone, almost impossible to turn the wheel in some cars when power steering pump fails.. |

Car behaviour by the sounds of it, like Peter said, if the Power Steering unit fails in any way, its like steering a Ocean Liner

Maybe You should check the alignment??? My car wll feel too heavy if the alignment is out...Check the TOE IN/TOE OUT/CAMBER/CASTOR......but then again bcoz I've heard of the super strut costly maintance.....so i use back The Original suspension with little bit of modification... |

mine is a bit heavier than what im used to, but to be honest i think it makes it more rawer, more sportier (if that makese sense!). i got 15" on it too so not sure if this is a common 'fault' or just the power steering isnt as 'powerfull' as the more modern cars??! |
