Hey guys, Been wanting to take out my speed dial HUD today. Basically the whole speedometer, I understand how to take that out, only one thing stops me though- and thats the steering wheel. It doesnt give much leaway for me to slip the speedo out, So my question is- Has anyone got a link or information on how to step by step take out the steering wheel. Please include details on how to stop the air bag blowing up in your face etc etc. Many thanks |

Needs to Try Harder

Disconnect battery first This is from changing out a Cynos/Paseo steering wheel- same principle- as it 's basically the same wheel.... you can forget about the indicator cancel mech...you shouldn't need to remove it...but just in case I've left it in.... First of all put the steering lock on with the wheels dead centre ie centre wheels and remove key from barrel - use a size 30 or 35 Torx screw IIRC......The screws do not fall out completely, there are a couple of vinylly rubber lips from the steering wheel keeping them in ![]() ... a small flat bladed screw driver will 'pop' them out after loosening....then you need a 17mm socket- possibly on a breaker bar if you have one for the nut to release the wheel from the steering rack/column doofer....... there are a couple of plugs to disconnect and possibly an earth wire too...(when I changed over xxx 4 spoke to my 3 spoke the indicator cancel mech was different so there are about 5.5 turns on this small plastic ring mechanism. There are 2 arrows to align so turn it all the way to the left until it doesn't go any more. Then whilst counting turn it all the way to the right should be 5.5 turns.....turn it back 2.5- turns and the arrows should line up...should be two keyways at about 10 and 2 o clock position after aligned.... you have to make sure when you refit the wheel is aligned with this or your indicators won't cancel correctly---you may even hear a plastic crunching noise as the wheel rotates.....) To Refit fit the wheel on the centre splines and check that it is also centred by putting keys back in ignition and releasing steering lock.......always good before....when wheel is visually centred, check that front wheels are dead ahead......if not centre front wheels before removing and refitting the steering wheel....then tighten large locknut (17mm) . If this doesn't work...get yer mam/little sister to fix it Hope this helps |

do you really have to remove the steering wheel out in order to access and remove the speedo out??? i sure you don't have to, since it seems like a lot of work and fuss... i'm sure many people who taken out the speedo don't need to detach the steering wheel... i know i didn't need to and i saw francis post on dismantling the instrument cluster and assuming he didn't too but maybe i'm wrong??? |

Steering wheel DEFINITELY does not need to be taken off to remove the instrument cluster, i've done it a few times, just lower the wheel to the last. 3 connections in the back are tight enough for space to connect/disconnect tho |

Yeah you don't have to remove the wheel, I've had mine out about 10 times trying to fix my speedo.
 Just lower the wheel as low as it will go (lever is on the left of the column) and then once you have unscrewed the cluster, pull it out, unplug the cables from behind it (3 in total) and then slide it so it's laying flat and pull it up out behind the wheel. It's a bit fiddly, but definitely possible! |

Thanks for the guide Johnny!. Excellent help there buddy. Erm.. My BZ-V doesn't have a steering height adjuster.. I have no idea why, but mine simply does not have those... shame really, cos that would've made it so much easier than taking off the wheel :( How do you take off the cover to get to the bolt in the middle of the steering wheel? Is it just a question of PULLING the cover off? |

how about just removing the plastic cover which wraps around the steering column and indicators?? just undo one screw on the bottom and twist the steering wheel to acess two screws behind the steering wheel.... instead of removing the whole steering wheel to access the speedo... |
