aka Hyper Rev 4...

cheaper way is just keep the stock rear end muffler and change the centre pipe to a larger diameter pipe... the stock muffler is really good for torque and power.... |

since my car has an ae111 20v swap ; I was wondering about your muffler inlet diameter & is it one stock muffler ?! ; I used to have two mufflers with my ST engine from an ae101. but now I have custom made pipes +Cusco header + Tanabe medalion muffler 60mm diameter inlet ( previously HKS dragger ; but police really dislike it !!! ) the only problem is I need to lower the noise a little bit ; should I go for extra med muffler ; it seems the only solution but I couldn’t find any 60mm inlet outlet here!!! ![]() |

60mm is what almost all exhaust manufacturers in japan use for ae111... in the hyperrev manazine, it says that 60mm is really the max size for 4age 20vs, without compromising streetability.. mine's also 60mm.. when you say the med muffler i assume you mean the centre hotdog/muffler?bigger centre hotdog/muffler doesn't actually do much, unless you haven't got one put in already. purpose of this is it reduces the drone going into the cabin, it's almost a must-have anyway so get it if you dont already have it. make sure when you get one, get one with a straight through design for this the material of your muffler makes a bit of difference too, stainless vs mild steel, you'll find mild steel a bit quieter while stainless a bit more louder and more crisp if the material is thick but really, the rear muffler is the thing that makes a world of difference. straight through is naturally loud on an engine like 4age anyway, the chambered ones such as TRD, Fujitsubo legalis R, are a lot quieter.... the blitz one which i have, although it's got a big muffler, it's still straight through, so it's still kind of loud... its 60mm, with a middle hotdog, and rear muffler, outlet tip is 100mm if i remember right note the muffler of blitz realize tt is almost identical to the tanabe medalion touring... honestly the stock 4age is naturally a loud engine, the stock muffler has like 2 reverse chambers and it was tested to be something like 87db, mitsubishi fto is another example where the stock exhaust is actually 90 db... which tanabe muffler do you have? the only thing which you can really do to reduce the noise level is to change the rear muffler to a bigger one, but i still think the tanabe is really too good to give up.. and i was surprised that the hks dragger caught cop attention, i always thought it was semi-quiet for what it is... I have one ; it was from an AE111 20v ; stainless steel after Market performance replacement . Its 40 cm long ; round shape ; inlet/ outlet 60mm ; diameter around 70mm . I wouldn’t say it’s the perfect noise reduction although it has an excellent flow.
My current Muffler is Tanabe Medallion Hyper type rated at 93 dB noise level ; it has an ellipse shape not rounded like the HKS Dragger .
My problem here is my AE92 rear exposed most of the muffler; so imagine a sport car with sneaky stainless pipes + Muffler and a 20v engine noise cruising in front of police car!! I have even cut the Tanabe Tip ( it was 120mm ) and wield an 73 stainless pipe to low the profile : |

cut tip... Oooo.. heartache.. the tanabe muffler is a nice piece of kit... btw, did you find any sound difference with the thinner pipe outlet? i'm guessing the tone is a little higher? |
