Well, before xmas i noticed i had a gearbox leak, wasnt much but there was a few drops under the car. It started getting a bit worse so i parked the car up as i didnt want to do damage! Anyways finally got around to having a look at it today, im a bit puzzled as to where its coming from, ill try explain it best i can. There is oil all around the area where the speed sensor goes into the gear box and a small pool of it on the sensor itself. But there is also a bit of oil on the drive shaft aswell, not as much as where the sensor is though. Now im not sure if its possible to get a leak from where the sensor is but to me its seems thats the problem, but then if it was the drive shaft it could've flung oil up onto the sensor when i was driving and it had nowhere to drain off, where as if there was oil on the shaft it has had a month to drip off. Im probibly not making sense here but it the best way i can explain it. I have pics but there on my phone and i cant get them onto my computer. Has anyone had any experences with anything simular? I got a new clutch put in about 10 months ago and never had an issue till now. I will be getting someone to have a look at it but i just thought id throw it up here beforehand! Thanks all! |

there is a O ring on the speedo drive but the oil doesn't come up that high so it only needs to seal against oil been flicked at it. could be your axle seal you have to watch when installing the axles that you don't bump the spring out of the seal |

Meant to get back to you's on this problem ages ago! I took the speed sensor off to have a look and oil came pouring out ! Put it back on and then opened the oil fiiler nut and loads of oil came pouring out, SO obviously when the clutch was getting done they managed to over fill the gearbox oil Got a new seal for the speed sensor, fitted that and havent had a problem since! Nice easy fix! Cleaned up all the spilt oil too and now i hav the great job of cleaning it off the driveway LOL. Edited by Mantis, May 14 2009, 03:20 PM.
