you loose low end power running with out the airbox, you can use sock filters made for carbs and run trumpets |

yeah mate thats the one. so the best thing to do so to mount the sensor close to the trumpets? anyone confirm where the exact spot would be? maybe a picture or something. thanks. Its just im ordering a set of trumpets a week tomorrow and just wanna get it all in my head what needs to be done etc. any other tips when installing the trumpets? (please dont give me a link to the pinned thread, I've already read it). doesnt really paint a full picture.

Are you running them open...or keeping them in the airbox plenum? If in the plenum, the one closest to the drivers side wing, will need to be trimmed to fit inside the box.. If running them open, best to get socks/mesh or an ITG filter to cover them...and if you have big hands, expect to lose some knuckle skin when taking the plenum off... |

gonna use them without the plenum/airbox mate. and lol @ your knuckle skin comment. I had a fiddle yesterday with the bolts just to prepare myself and like you say, there isnt alot of room. is it just the 5 bolts? three on top, 1 either side? i hope so as i couldnt see anymore. |

I can't recall exactly how many, but sounds right, it's kind of hinged/slotted to fit in the bottom |

surely those filters would take up less space than the standard plenum thingy though? |

one of the things i read on wheels jamaica was from a guy who seems to have conducted loooads of research into it (named 4E-FTE so he gets the credit) is that having open trumpets didnt have any detrimental effect at all... he claimed power had increased across the entire band, apart from a small flatspot below 2000rpm. Quote "Oh yeah, I drove the car on saturday. Major difference. Car revvs like a bike, the noise is awesome. Quite a drivig experience. Just needs some fine tuning on the dyno and it'll be pretty." Another quote "Yes, the orginal figures are in the 'saga continues' thread. The original figures were 132.9 with 103lb/ft. We only added the horns, there were no other modifications to the car. This is a gain of 8.6whp - 6lb/ft over his standard ECU and a massive 12.9whp - 12.7lb/ft. And to confirm again, this is untuned with only three modifications; 4-2-1 FGK header, 5Zigen Fireball headers, and the newly installed horns." I believe the ecu mentioned was simply a standard ecu from an auto BZ. He then went onto mention that a "japanese trick" of raising the bonnet at the back had been used in the belief that it increases the speed of the air rushing over the bonnet causing suction under the bonnet... or something like that. I hope i am allowed to quote this information here.. but to make sure its clear, all of this info was produced by "4E-FTE" and "seven7" and was originally posted on "WheelsJamaica" - so thankyou guys, you are legends. the link can be found here - The Link |

Is that your car? Was featured in a car mag over here (owner was in england iirc and he had it imported from Japan). Such a sweet car! The first time you pull the airbox of is a PITA but once you've done it once its a piece of cake next time. Who ever said theres five bolts is right. You may need to use a screw driver to lever the box open as after 10years of not being touched its a bit stuck. Lever it from the top centre. |
