best gearbox oil to use

im looking to change my gearbox oil.. my box has an aftermarket lsd also... any suggestions to use

If it's aftermarket, what type of diff is it? Geared, clutch type?

If it's a geared type such as Quiafe, you'll be fine using standard Toyota MTF or similar branded oil.
If it is a clutch type LSD don't use standard MTFs, atleast not alone, they won't cope with the added heat and don't provide protection for the clutch packs.
I tried using Silkolene Syn5 on recomendation from some body else who was running a clutch type LSD and it hated it. Diff was knocking alot worse than before and was very abrupt when engaging/disengaging. Became very unpredicatable and clutch packs were getting excessive wear. It was in there for about a week before i changed it.
Swapped to Kaaz LSD oil and the difference is amazing, diff is almost silent now, much more progressive and predictable drive and a fair bit less swarf came out last time i changed the oil. Highly reccomend it for plated diffs.

Other options are diff manufacturers own branded oil of standard MTF with friction modifiers added.

im not sure what type of lsd it has.. all i know is its a noisey knocky one thats works well and pulls like a train in the bends... would i be best off putting in the additive for the lsd even if it wasnt a clutch type lsd?

If it knocks/grinds at slow speeds when turning it will be a clutch type, or just a shagged out factory diff lol. Jack both wheels up at the front and turn one wheel, a clutch type LSD should cause the opposite wheel to rotate the same way.

I would highly recomend using Kaaz LSD oil. It is suitable for both syncros and clutch packs and is the only stuff I have found that works well. I know a few people who tried to bed new diffs in using various oils and most just wouldn't work, they've all gone with Kaaz now and have stuck with it. It should also quiten down the knocking significantly. Demon Tweeks and a few other places supply it.

You could use friction modifiers with a decent MTF but you won't know how much you actually need. It would be a case of adding more after driving it each time until you found a combination the diff was happy with.

As I said, 99% of factory diffs are of a geared design and will be fine used with a normal MTF and should require next to no maintenance over time.
A clutch type LSD requires a high quality oil designed to work with the clutch packs, the oil needs changing usually as often as the engine oil is changed and the clutch packs will eventually need rebuilding.
