Hi, during the next months I want to upgrage my 20V BT. I wanna use an Haltech E6x on TPS signal. Is it possible to use the stock dizzy trigger signal as input for the Haltech? Do I have to cut some tooth from the wheel inside the dizzy? I also wanna run coil on plugs so that I will be able to remove the OEM coil, igniter,... Wanna go wasted spark (1+4 an 2+3 on ignition channels 1+2 of the Haltech). Is there a possibility to still get the original tach working without the Igniter? |

i dont think that it would be possible to run coil on plug whilst using the stock dizzy pickup. you would have to go to crank pickup. |

the dizzy has 3 outputs... two single tooth and one 24tooth this is sync for both cam and crank.... I dont know about haltech but most modern programmable ecu's will let you set the input triggers with out needing to mod anything. Iv wired a few link ecu's on 20v's and other things and no additional sensors have been required, using wasted/direct spark is a matter of wiring in a 2/4 channel ignitor. To make the dash tacho work you need to make a little circuit that combines all coil neg and feed the tach wire on the stock ignitor, the ecu tacho drive probably wont work the std tacho Edited by AceSniper, Sep 17 2009, 04:41 AM.

According to the manual: "The multi-tooth trigger type supports any trigger system that has multiple evenly spaced trigger events connected to the trigger channel and one home event connected the home channel. An example of this type of trigger is the Toyota 24 and 1 cam sensor. After recognising the home event, the ECU will locate the first “standard” engine trigger by the tooth indicated as “Tooth Offset” which can be programmed via the Ignition Set-up page. To find the remaining “standard” trigger events, the ECU counts a number of teeth equal to the total teeth in one cam revolution, divided by the number of cylinders. For Example a 4-cylinder engine with a 24-tooth wheel on the cam and a corresponding home would have the following setup values: Trigger Angle: 65° (10° to 100° as required) Trigger Type: Multi-tooth Total Teeth: 24 Tooth Offset: 2 (1 to Total Teeth)" so it should be doable by giving the haltech ECU the 24 tooth and one of the 2 home signals from the cam sensor? And for the tach I found this in the manual: "Tacho Output Used for driving tachometers when running a multicoil ignition set-up. This output combines all of the multicoil signals into one output and this is used to provide an RPM measurement" So normally it should work by attaching the Haltech Tach Output Sigb¨nal to the std tacho?! |

yes the 24/1 will work, you can remove the dizzy rotor and cap and use/make a smaller cap to stop water getting in. Most ecu's output a low level signal for tacho, the ae dash's need a high level, there is a resistor somewere in the cluster that drops it down to low level. So you need to find and remove this resistor to use ecu tacho out.... I haven't been able to find the resistor on a ae101 dash.... You can run a mix of resistors and diodes along with 12v to combine all the coil -Neg with out effecting the triggering this will run the tacho with out any other "mods"

Hi, thanks for the help.So the stock dizzy has one 24 teeth wheel and two "home" signals. Is there a spcific home signal that I should use? Or can y use either of both? |

Thanks, great info!!! Do you also have the trigger setup values (tooth offset, trigger angle,...) when connecting like on the first diagramm |

use sync 1 as its TDC sync2 is 180 cam deg later (tdc exhaust stroke) so you have a 24+1 trigger setup |

Thanks Ace, your help is so appreciated! ECU is on its way, now I just need a patch loom or an old ECU (to use the connectors) to be able to connect the Haltech via the OEM wiring loom from inside the car. I'm sure that during the setup I might have some more questions. And I'm sure I will find some answers in this forum |

Just for the records. Wired everything up and it didn't start. Had spark and fuel but didn't started. After 2 hours of trial and error testing I tried to hook up Sync#2 instead of Sync#1 of the dizzy cam angle sensor. Result: it started on the first turn :-) |
