Hi all, has anyone had any experience with any type of "piggy back" fuel managment with there car? ive got a few mods, ie trumpits on the throttle bodies, aftermarket exhaust manifold, decat, catback exhaust and i was wanting to either get the ecu remapped at my local rolling road/tuner, and/or buy a piggyback fuel managament device to get the most out it! i dont have the funds for a new ecu so im just wondering if anyone else has had there standard ecu remapped or fiddled with!!! Thanks |

I think you have to get a piggyback or a new ecu as the old one cant be remapped! :( |

nothing hard about them, you have your stock ecu thatruns stock map, then you just add remove fuel/timming at points to adjust your tune.... if theywont touch it there not tunners, its not hard... just for best gain you need to do dyno runs and have knock/wideband gear |

272's I doubt will run on just a "chiped" ecu.... if you mean the TOMS one. You wont see anywere near 190hp with just the ecu, the sard showed about 12hp on dyno over stock ecu on the same silvertop. Toms ecu is built for intake, exhuast, better timming advance and better fueling for power in the TODA range you would need near 304/9mm to come close to 200hp, 272's expect around 115 wheel KW *rought guess* The 298/10mm cams Im using have seen 220hp in a car but that had lots of $$$ head flow work. Big cams go very nice in 20v's give mid rpm a punch aswell as top end, and loose stuff all bottom end if tuned right, bigger the better. I know this vid is shit quality, but this is in my ae101, nothing striped out inside, only road tuned by me, and on a straight road on a hot 30deg day, rev limit is higer now also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hbfy2wh6XmY This is a copy past from another forum just give you an idea:ph43r: "silver top rods in a blacktop engine, valves 3 angle cut,new valve springs, port matching, new cams intake 278deg 8.92lift,exhaust 287deg 9.17lift.all rebuilt, new rings bearings.link computer.trd headgasket 125kw atw or 175hp |

like ace said, you will never see 190 from the ecu. that description was abit of a lie, especially when the engines notoriuosly don't hit the 165 they're supposed to. still a nice buy though. if you go for the emanage setup, first refusal on the ecu if i havn't got myself one by then. |

no one makes retainers for 20v's but mine are holding up with out issue. You will want todo your valve springs. its best to pull the head off todo this... while the valves are out wire brush them and re lap them into the head replace the valve stem seals, match the intake ports to the TB's, Throw a TRD head gaskit in there, If you run decent fuel also slightly skim the head since cams lower your dynamic compression... TRD .8mm will take it to 11.4:1 You really dont want to push to much power/rpm on the stock blacktop conrods, the pistons are sweet, just the rods might let go :( You can run a greedy piggyback with your TOMs chiped ecu You will need to check your shim clearance for the cams, dont know about toda but mine are 10thou on intake and ex, while stock they are 10thou intake 20thou ex |

hmmmm..... interesting...... by running a greddy piggyback do you just mean the emanage? im guessing the TOM's ecu is still going "learn" whatever changes i was to make and revert back to factory settings? Ive got the emanage but i guess ill have to buy the harness's now aswell!! Well i got my toms ecu and new imec trumpets in 2day!! must say its a lot quicker!! i havent taken it up to the rev limiter as such but i have taken it up to 8900 rpm!!! i got a bit scared after that!! my cams arrived aswell, just waiting on my manifold now and im flyin!! ill put up some pictures soon!!

jap branded plug and play ecu's don't give examples of power gains, they just tell you what it will do. good for 190bhp means with other mods it will cope with that, the ecu won't give you 190bhp. |

Freedom's ECU is used in Tsuchiya Sama's AE86 if thats anything to go by... Apparently anything past 8200rpm is crystal ball territory for the stock Blacktop rods... But like AceSniper said, have heard of other horror stories before XD |

Running a link linkecu.com but it depends what your local tuners know what todo as the ecu is only as good as the tune. |

A few of my mate's have had apexi unit's 'loose pieces of the map' it seems to revert some setting back to the base map and as a result can loose power over time nothing major, didnt do any harm and not sure how common this is but just worth noting. |
