What size piping are people using on Levin's? I imagine 2.25 inch mandrel bent would be best? I'm looking at using that size piping in conjunction with a Stainless steel Fujitsubo muffler I picked up for cheap... |

Go with whatever the size is of the original piping although you could quite easily go up to 2.5inch in diameter. Also will you be getting an exhaust shop to fit it or do it yourself? |

most japanese exhaust manufacturers do 60mm for our cars but some are bit smaller too, i think 55mm might be better size since too big won't maintain the back pressure and torque....

A 2.5inch systemis what you should be looking for. It has an internal diameter of 60.5mm which I think is ideal. If you want a straight through exhaust it will be a lot louder than your standard one so be warned. |

2 1/4 is plenty big enough for a N/A 1600. Just make it's a well built system and it'll do wonders to your car. 2 1/2 is too big and too noisey IMO. With the exhaust laws we have in my country (New Zealand), a lot of people need to put in silencers or extra resonators or mufflers. Stick to 2 1/4 and you'll be fine. |

2.5 is pretty good, i probably would have preferred a 2 1/4 though. I've got a full 2.5 in mine and it sounds awesome... but i have to put a silencer on it due to the exhaust laws in NZ.

n1 also = "boyracer" = risk of pull over by cops = more media interest in cracking down "boyracers" in nz.... big thing now in nz... so not only noise but appearance will make it easier to spot you... but after another couple of years, everything is back to normal, just too many hype going on in nz... from the silly drama in christchurch.... |

talk to al mufflers.... they are the experts... they will know if it's too loud or not.... hey you paid for there services at the end, so you have the right to ask them there opinions before you regret making it and then stuck with something that you don't want.... well i think those "boyracers" cunts just ruins most people’s reputation as car enthusiasts since now every cop or members of the public will have the image of all young teenagers with nice japanese imports are boyracers and have bad attitudes and think that the boyracers are above the law... which is really stupid considering only a tiny majority of boyracers are true "boyracers" and have no brains to drive... the nz government are even talking about crushing cars that are confiscated from repeat offenders... or even heavier fines and more demerit points off with longer terms of disqualification of drivers licences.... |

i know!! Half of them drive 1988 starlets that cost them $500NZD and think they are really hot stuff. and now "boyracers" say their going to start burning down cop cars I really hope that this whole matter will cool down soon because it really ruins it for jap car enthusiast.Since i'm in Christchurch, where it all started, it's not going to be easy. I've been driving really carefully lately and driving away from areas with high boyracers activity. Thanks heaps for the advice mate I hope they can soon distinguish between a car lover and a boyracer.

Hey when did this happen in Christchurch? Also i think its easy to distinguish a car enthusiast and a boyracer....just look at the car and they way they drive... 'Car enthusiasts' usually have tasteful mods on a generally good condition car and dont drive like idiots, they may accelerate fast but yeah. Most of the time these 'boyracers' have cars like r32's, civics, etc which are probably done up a bit and drive really fast. Then you've got you 'wannnabe boyracers' i.e. really shitty old cars like 1990 and under which are really worn out and a bit rusty with random mods like huge 19" chromes which are worth more than the car and a very loud muffler. But when they take off they make a lot of noise but dont go very fast, normal drivers accelerate faster than they do. Other thing that pissed me off the other day when i saw it, which also belongs in the 'wannabe boyracer' group,....a f'ing van, also huge wheels and one of those mufflers that dips downwards forgot what its called...seen them on trademe, dumpy muffler??? Makes a shit load of noise at the traffic lights idling, took off at like snail speed...

This happened last thursday or something like that. It's been all over the news etc. I absolutely know what you mean, most "boyracer" cars have rusted paint with chromes and a dumpy exhaust. Looks sooooo crap and sounds even worse. Wow Jin?? are you serious?? a van with a dumpy?? that is ridiculous! I thought "pimping" out 87 coronas were crap enough. Some guy in a 90 galant tried to "race" me on the highway the other day. It had really shit faded paint job, and a huge dirty bore exhaust(sounded really rattly). I just ignored it cos i'm not going to put up with this wanna be boyracer rubbish. |

Hmmm i must go read about that incident, i remember seeing something on the news about them going to really crack down on boyracers but that was it... And yes i am serious, that boyracer van was going down colombo street in city center and i happen to be catching the bus home that day in city when i saw it...i dunno what the worlds coming to, i thought crappy sedans/hatchs with huge wheels and loud exhausts was enough, but now they are moving onto wagons and vans. I have no idea how these people do it, if it were me, i think it would cause a lot of self esteem issues cause im trying to look cool in a car and people on the outside know its a rusted piece of .... I dont know how they can do that to an old car and be proud of themselves trying to look cool while 'speeding' down streets... |

the whole thing is sooo stupid if you ask me. I reckon if they wanna do up their cars, they might as well save up and buy a decent car and then do it up. cos i personally think buying a van or a wagon and then customizing it is a waste of money and time. Oh are you in chch as well? Do you have any customizations on your Ae111? i would love to see it as i'm desperate for some ideas for mine Send me a PM or an email or something
