There a weird sized bolt allright. Use a plumbers spanner. It goes all the way around the nut so wont slip |

get a socket and a breaker bar. if the cars on stands then put the baron the nut, put your feet on the inside of the side skirt and use your whole body weight. or a torch will be quicker

really .... 1/2" socket sets make things like this kids play... the strongbars have the length, and single hex sockets dont round the heads |

Needs to Try Harder
|
Use the original round Toyota gaskets- it's slightly fiddly trying to fit them- but they're the best there is... The ones I got sent with the 5Zigen decat were shite too! silvery metallized cardboard is no use whatsoever... Edited by JohnnyBZG, Mar 26 2009, 06:27 PM.

Paper gaskets and a little bit of exhaust putty worked perfect for me |

Mine still blows with exhaust putty, then gasket, then more exhaust putty, plus doing them up fuck!ng hard! Well I took people's advise and got the Toyota metal gaskets. They are in no way similar to the ones supplied by solid-fab. These new ones are just rings. They fit in the recess of the downpipe face and the rear section face, which you should notice when fitting the decat pipe. It only cost me 8 quid for the parts 90917-06043 and 90917-06054. Believ me, a blowing cat looses so much power, and also causes stuttering from the engine when hitting/letting off the throttle. Now I have done this, the ride is much smoother, sounds better, more punch under acceleration, and pops a treat! Yet to see if flames are available without installing a rear camera. Hint: Do not use exhaust putty in place of a gasket. Really shit to get off when you realise it hasn't worked, and tends to blow further down the exhaust before going off, blocking the baffles a tad. And also, never use it on the downpipe to the real cat come MOT time, as it will render the cat useless! |

get 2.5 inch metal cats and the right flanges, and ask an exhaust shop to weld it up for you.. the only bolt-on cat you can get off the shelf for ae111 is the SARD cat and they cost an arm and a leg... metal cats are just metal cats, catco, metalcat, x-force all make them... i 'd reckon just go for x-force since they're cheaper.. don't worry about the cat temp sensor if your car has one, you can just leave it unplugged and just pull off the bulb from behind the dash, it won't affect the way the car drives at all in any way... if your car's 98+ model then it won't have a cat temp sensor from factory anyway. no such thing as "too free flowing" its myth however you will start loosing power if you go to big in pipe size

ok so a 2.5" cat with 100cpsi should be ok? will be a good buy since i've been runing hks headers and exhaust through the standard cat just had a look and they now have some 2.5" 200cpsi cats listed. now theres choice..... edit - dont worry bout the 200cpsi that is from a different seller and under both the 100 and 200cpsi cats it says not road legal.... might go with original seller since he doesnt state that.... yes, it ensures an air tight seal so the exhaust doesn't leak out |
