sensor? you mean the wire coming out of the cat? just cut it close to the body of the car. its no sue to anything.
nothing will change when you cut it.

Bolts on mine were stiff but came off eventually, make sure to douse it in Wd-40. the 2 bolt design is pretty crap for sealing, some firegum might be needed. make sure you get the gaskets with the decat as well.

Bolt the temp sensor to the heat shield above where the cat was. I wouldn't advise cutting the wire. one, it may throw up an error code thinking the sensor is out. two, your car being '96 you will likely need your cat back in for the mot and thus the sensor will have to go back in the hole it came from.

mine is a '95, i have no errors and the engine runs better without it. plus i dont remember it being able to be unbolted.
dont be afraid to cut it Francis, its not exential to the running of the car.

it will have no effect on the running of the car so i don't see how the engine will run better without it?

it can be unbolted as i did mine and it is currently bolted to the heat shield. if francis cuts it what is going to plug the sensor hole in the cat come mot time when it has to go back in?

i left the thing in the cat and just cut the cable and it didnt make a difference to the MOT. all it does is monitor the exhaust temp incase there is a problem in the engine and its running to hot.

your car is 1 year if that older than mine. we are running the first stage designe cars. maybe it does on the newer models. but on mine i dont get any error code, no lights on the dash, no lack in performance.
it is allmost a usless item. its only used for diagnostics reason on the early models.

Do you reckon it chucks up an error code if you cut the cable?

Just tuck it up instead of cutting it, then if you want use it in future you can. Did it on mine months ago and no problems/issues.

hey guys quick question....thinking about keeping my standerd bzr exhaust on my levin and just adding a de-cat what you think? info on gains ect.......trhanks

The decat will still give you gains so i'd go for it. Even if you decide to replace the exhaust at a later date you will probably be looking at a cat back system anyway so I don't see why you wouldnt just get the decat now.

it will sound pretty good with the standard system, more raspy and you can hear the changeover pointe better!

IMO a de-cat pipe is just a De-cat pipe no matter ehat brand is stuck on it,its just a pipe between 2 flanges...ine was made by some crowd in japan and i got it off proparts in dublin

or you could just get it custom made at your local exhaust place and achieve the same results

Just installed my De-cat today. Bought from DECATS R US on Ebay along with bolts and gaskets.

Went on with no problems and used fire gum in addition to the gaskets.

The cat temperature sensor was tucked up behind the heat shielding. I just unbolted a piece of the shield and put the sensor and its cable securely behind it.

The De-Cat has totally changed the sound of the exhaust which is otherwise standard. Its not too loud but is nice and raspy.

just fitted my de cat last night,
my car was always louder than any other ae111 even though my one has a standard system, i fitted my de cat and theres a lovely ras from mine too,
i was a bit worried about the tem sensor but when taking mine out id none! there wasnt even a lace for it but a few inches up from the cat there is what looked like the sensor..
my car doesnt feel any different but i will be resetting the ecu in a few mins and hopefully it will improve some bit.

the bolts wer tricky to get out but i got them out in the end and i fitted new ones, it was blowing out at the start even with new gaskets but i soon used a sealent for them so now its all quiet :D
every one should get a de cat +standard system

Ordered a de-cat from Alan this week and it was here within 2 days (Thanks Alan!) Straight on the car and im pretty sure theres a slight improvement and she even feels abit smoother... sadly she aint doin any pops for me so i guess its a full system next month!

10/10 for a £50 pipe and id definutely recommend Solid fab to anyone considering one

No idea it was on my old one. Dont expect massive gains as its only a 1.6 n/a you would be lucky to get 1-3hp increase i would expect

Hey guys im going to get a decat pipe made up for my Corolla so that i can fit my FGK headers myself (last exhaust shop cut into my old decat).

I need to check that both ends are at 90degrees to the pipe?

As in:

l----l

or one end is at a angle:

l----/

I've looked at the photos in this topic and one looked like one end was slightly different to the other? :idk:

needs to be dead flat to seal...
best way is to measure up your pipe bolt the flanges in place, if your center flange hole is the size of the outside pipe dai you can just sit it in there tack it in place, pull it off and weld it up... that way you wont have any leaky issues

I was talking to Doug20v and he said he didn't notice any extra power since fitting the decat, just raspier/louder

the decat doesn't increase horsepower, it just allows for a smoother flow of exhaust gas
you might experience slightly better response from the throttle/engine and louder exhaust note, thats all you'll get from a decat

Yeah think i might just send the car to exhasut shop to have them change to my fgk manifold and sort the de-cat front flange.

Kaiser & n2o - I too didn't notice much of a difference when i had a de-cat put it. Just the last exhaust shop who did my front pipe cut out one of my de-cat flanges thats why i have asked as i do not want to cut/weld into these headers.
