Lately I've been noticing 1st, 2nd and Reverse gears are near on refusing to grab. Whereas it used to change with ease, I now find I have to put a bit of force behind my gear changes, and Reverse and 2nd always seems to "grind" when I grab them. Is this a sign of a worn Synchros, or is it something worse? |

5spd or 6spd matey? If grinding, most probably worn synchros but how old is your clutch? =) |

I have a 5spd 4-AFE at the moment. As for the clutch, it's all factory ('96). Do you think it might require a total gearbox over-haul? If so, I might as well go the 4-AGE route, and upgrade to the 6spd. What are your thoughts? |

Its slowly getting there imo, difficult to assess not being able to drive it myself but sounds like its slowly telling you a overhaul might be coming XD |

Sounds Syncro problems, I would have a search on here but I would suggest putting a 5 speed trans as it is stronger than the 6 speed |

Alright, thanks for the help guys. I'm going to take it to the garage on monday and get a good look at it. Here's hoping it's nothing serious.

reverse has no syncro, check your shifter cables and the arms on the gearbox can get bent/damaged if you undo the bolts around your shifter you should be able to slide it around a little... try and hold it in the top left corner and tighten it up. Could be your clutch not fully letting go, its cheap to bleed some new fluid though it encase. and last..... replace gbox oil... from there you look at rebuild or finding a good 2nd hand one... a 4age box has nicer ratios and bolts on |
