These were the biggest flakes. there was also a small amount not much bigger than dust. Just wondering if I should be worried about it. If so what needs to be done. The gearbox its self changes nicely.

If it changes are still tight and smooth then shouldn't be too worried give it a flush with some normal cheap gearbox oil (castrol, mobil ect) drive around for a week or two then put in Redline ShockProof. I did that cause my gear changes were very crunchy, down shifting from 3rd to 2nd was near impossible and when cold going from 1st to 2nd was very hard unless speed to gear ration was spot on. After i changed to Redline the thing was like brand new. I used Motul before i did the flush and wasn't happy with it. It was my last ditched effort before i did the syncros but now it 'fixed' itself!!! Happy as larry!!! |

dont run redline unless you want to glaze your syncros flush it then get some castrol syntrax not the normal cheap one the RED synthetic one its about 28-30$ a lt from repco, normally kept outback bottle says synthetic onit and it silver? instead of the normal white castrol containers metal flakes = not to good. but if its shifting fine and sounds fine just keep using it.... to rebuild it will cost more than a 2nd hand box.... so if things start getting crappy look for another box, you can only do what you can now to prevent anymore damage |
