Depends what your local tuner is most comfortable with. DO NOT BUY A E-MANAGE, or E-MANAGE Ultimate! |

I agree with bzr4age. I used to have an e manage ultimate on my car.. Toyota's ecu reject the e manage twice in a week! Also you will not gain much power and the tuner couldn't find out how to remove or move the rpm limit!! (too difficult to do it) Ask your tuner with which brand is more familiar. Some good ECUs are LINK,MOTEC,Haltech,HKS Fcon V pro or a chipped ecu by Mines,C-one etc |

Proved that on a dyno after driving a while the settings are reverted. Toyota ECU are self learning (i.e. it adjusts it fuel maps based on what the sensors reads). Basically if you've done lots to the engine, you will need a standalone ECU. A piggyback has its limits, and really I haven't seen much good results with e-manage ECUs. |

Even with the supporting harness's Daniel? Cause I heard if you use the additional harnesses it shouldn't reject it but yes there are big restrictions with piggybacks and to do more advance things its difficult to do... |

I really doubt it. If you actually look at a harness and follow the wiring, is the exactly the same as in the manuals provided - so hence its really just a 'easy plug and play' tool ,rather than the myth that it stops it reverting it back. And there are no special chip or whatever on the harness, so I don't see how that will be any different to hard wiring it. Regarding blue emanage, I've heard stories that the updated patch fixes it. But then, surely if thats the case my emanage ultimate that I was using would have got this issue fixed too, but as my dyno testing tells me a different story. |

Dread: The e manage is waste of money to use it on a 20v in my opinion.. Nobody managed to gain hp from this piggyback.. And all of them, had problems. |

Such a dilema, the consensus I have got from reading various threads is that the e-manage is bad. I thought the e-manage overcame the overriding issue but this has not been backed up by the actual people with experience using it. Shame as it costs way less than anything available. I noticed some guys builds here saw great results with Link g4s, I read up on them and they seem really affordable for what is an advanced standalone unfortunately I am unaware of any Irish dealer :( I know of 1 tuner who uses Motec and HKS... expensive. Another uses Haltech and Apexi (I think these are model specific ones). Anyone else know of any competent mappers and what ecu are they comfortable working with? Ideally I don't wanna spend more than €1000 on the ecu (not like the mad money for motec) and leave enough for mapping. Edited by PeterAE111, Sep 13 2010, 03:49 PM.

yea a friend of mine had one in his levin (blacktop) it's magnetic connection, it worked ok and he had bought it used which made it worst it had no manual instructions, but the real problem was that the tuner wasn't familiar with it at all but he tried his best. also i know of a miata which is using it, runs very well. and also a civic type r runs well also, but blacktops are more difficult to tune. It's been said before on here, if looking to go for an aftermarket ECU it's best to speak with who will be tuning it and see what they recomend. If they suck at tuning XYZ ecu and that's the one you end up buying and taking to them to set up and tune it's gona cost you in the long run. Where as if they suggest ABC ecu as they use them all the time theres a good chance they will have it running sweet quicker... ...Thats provided you chose a good tuner to start with... |

2 of the guys with some of the more highly tuned blacktops on here run them I think. They seem to have had great results with them and gave feedback on how they were to work with I think. It manages fuel and ignition but also can adjust cam timing. Problem for us is I'm not sure of a tuner here who works with them :( http://www.linkecu.com/products/engine-management-ecus/g4-storm Gives you an idea of it's features.
