I was wondering if it would be possible to get a carbon fibre bonnet made with a scoop which directs the cold air to trumpets with a filter ? Could you be looking at good gains with this ? Would this be a big problem when it rains ?

I am not asking about the trumpets The thread is called "Bonnet intake" which i refer to as i am talking about a direct cold air feed from bonnet to trumpets |

Your first issue is the orientation of the trumpets, they're facing towards the firewall. So unless you're literally going to make a cut of your bonnet, then a chute down to your trumpets. Do able I guess but wouldn't like to be your engine when rain comes nor you when police ask you to pop your bonnet. |

I've fitted a Suzuki Grand Vitara bonnet vent in my car and I run my throttle bodies open but with an ITG filter. Very happy with it. Look at my build thread for photos or my thread about bonnet vents in the 'external' section of the forum. No issues with rain and them getting wet |

Yh Escy that is what i am talking about did u feel any good power gains by having the cold air from the bonnet ? And to be honest i am really lucky with cops i have been pulled a few times and i have still never been asked to pop the bonnet so fingers crossed since i always seem to stumble across the RBT lol |

To be honest, any differences are marginal, that said, most modifications on a 1.6 na engine are. They sound amazing and the car feels more meaty higher up the revs so think my have picked up some torque |

Mines been like that for years. Sorry its an AE92 but there is a blacktop inside. Your Vitara scoop looks nicer though![]()

so your scoop is fully open to all elements and foreign bodies, with open funnels , bit risky aint it

On a race only car (And Japanese owners), filters are deemed an unnecessary restriction so they're not used. |

For most events I enter I cover the mouth of the funnels with window screen material (mosquito mesh). Not the most attractive thing however. I even use the car for dirt autocross events with the same mesh. Been competing like that for almost 6 years now. Engine compression still about 215psi. I change the oil every couple events though and only use 10W30 synthetic. It is road legal where I live and I generally drive it to events. Got caught in the rain a few times but never had a problem. The box doesnt fully seal on the firewall. These is about a 1 inch gap.

![]() Dyno of a blacktop in a FWD Starlet we did the other day(not my car). Factory VVT intake cam and pulley with 272 degree exhaust cam, motec ecu with some 50mm ram pipes and Cusco headers. Similar bonnet intake to mine. Needed more time for cam gear adjustment. Edited by jim20, Aug 3 2010, 02:23 AM.
