had the car tested today and the fault code that came up was Speed sensor i thought all along it was my clocks were gone but obviously not. The mechanic said that the speed sensor in the car was in the distributor is this correct and he seamed very unsure. Also would this problem maybe cause the car to have timing problems/backfiring??? |

![]() You can see where the Speed sensor is in this pic. It can be a bit awkward to get to without removing the airbox/plenum etc but it is possible!

I would be surprised if a speed sensor issue would be causing problems. I was getting a speed sensor error for a while and it was down to the fact i had disconnected my RSM but left the wiring attached. But I wasn't effecting the timing or anything. |

if you read up on the millions of 'how do i remove my speed cut' threads round these parts, you will read that removing the speed sensor signal from the ecu will lower you rev cut, pull a bit of timing out and generally de-tune your 20V. i wouldn't worry about the backfiring etc. i believe any car that is getting a good thrashing should backfire. mine backfires all the time. EDIT: do you not have wreckers round ireland that sell these kinda parts cheap?you can get a speed sensor for prob 40NZD on trademe over here? Edited by touge_trueno, Aug 4 2010, 10:26 PM.

I can almost gurantee that your speedo sender will be the same as another Toyota, pull it out and take it to your local breakers yard and ask if you can go and try to match it up with another. |
