leave plenum as it is unless your going to turbo it.... Id loose power if I ran a "shiny" plenum with no volume... would kill topend really bad. Depends what rpm band you want to improve...

Hi all, I run short ram trumpets but with individual filters on each. http://s1046.photobucket.com/albums/b470/kaivaksdal/Road%20wheels%20and%20trumpet%20filters/ Running them open is not a good idea, as even on track you do suck in sh1t... Also, you must get lots of nice, cold air to them to be effective. Including a race exhaust system (solid fabs) this gives a reliable 140bhp at the wheels and doesn't seem to affect power delivery - then again, this is a track car and doesn't need much torque below 5,000rpm. going off topic a bit but has anybody heard of TWM trumpets? getting some off the same guy who got BZR4AGE his IMEC trumpets but these TWM trumpets are supposed to be the bee's knee's and much better than the IMEC ones. plus much more expensive!! they are spun alloy opposed to rubber just wondering if someone has heard of them before? ![]() they sure do look like sex on this alfa engine. |

I haven't heard of them, but they look nice. However, if they are more expensive just because they are metal and not plastic, then it's up to you to spend the money... I can't see how they can be fundamentally better than imec ones though.... as long as the in take path is right and smooth, does it matter metal or plastic? Up to you Kai McLevin |

yeah true but it also comes down to availability. if i could buy IMEC ones off the shelf here in NZ then i would. but these came in from the states. from the look of them they are supposed to be really awesome for carb setups. -which probably means they will be awesome as the airflow would be a lot more of a delicate subject in a carbed engine. in terms of alloy vs rubber. alloy will give a better sound due to resonance. will be getting them fairly cheap though as have bought about 4grand worth of stuff off the guy so far.

don't run them open. the trumpets need fresh cold air and removing plenum doesn't do much for it. as for if you will get any gains, who knows depends if you have decent extractors and exhaust to free the engine up. |

@ Touge_Trueno how are those TWM Velocity stacks you said about ? Have you got them fitted now ? What length are they ? |

haha funny you should mention that. ![]() blue line is std trumpets, red line is 40mm TWM trumpets with full radius lip and tapered as well. i am going to get it re-tested once i have a decent set of extractors which will hopefully get it to free up in the upper rev range a bit and make use of the extra air being sucked into the engine. still running completely std extractors atm. those dyno runs were back to back and both were with airbox fitted and plenum on. So for anyone running open trumpets, what did you do with 2 the vaccuum hoses that run off the plenum or the bottom plate of it anyway? I can see one going to the steering rack and i think its something to do with making it easier to steer at slow speeds or something? Couldn't really follow the other one around but im guessing its for the ISCV or something? |
