Right since i brought my car, the steering wheel was not put on aligned so took it off and line it up today, simple job. encountered the same problem on all my cars though once everything removed the wheel was majorly stuck to the shaft argh! tools needed 10mm socket for battery terminals torx key set (30?) 19mm socket 1st remove positive and negative connections from the battery (drain any remaining charge with lights etc, even though wont actually light up) 2nd make yourself a brew and wait for at least 20 mins for any remaining charge to disperse 3rd you'll need a torx key (30) if remembered right if you have a set youll be able to work out which size, unscrew the 2 bolts on the underside of the horn cover and after completely loose wiggle the plastic slightly either side to let the bolts drop out. once the 2 bolts are free remove the airbag and store in safe place 4th 19mm socket with extension, if your with a mate tell him/her to hold the wheel in a fixed place whilst you loosen the 19mm bolt holding the wheel to the steering shaft. after loose leave the bolt on at least one thread (save having your face smashed by a steering wheel) 5th pull like buggery to get the wheel off the shaft do not hit the shaft as you may end up damaging something else, if it very stiff try a bit of spray grease/wd40 and leave to soak. refitting is just the reversal!! |

what you need is a gear puller. looks like so:![]() its stuck as a result of being put back on without any grease. same with mine. (my fault though) |

yeh true forgot about these, if you use them i would put a socket over the shaft to prevent any damage to thread just in case it slips etc |

When tightening the airbag back up how tight do you go? Can tightening it too much blow the airbag out when connected back up? |

the pullers dont really work there is actual 2 thread bolts on the standard wheel. use a flat plate with 2 holes at the right distance. use 2 bolts and tighten, it will pop the wheel off.

why do you need to drain the battery? i had this problem when i 1st got the car, also part of my horn mechanism was in the glow box! so it was a good opportunity to take the steering wheel off and have nosy! without draining the battery!! |

Neither will pulling the wheel so hard it hits you full bore in the face because the nut wasnt left on to stop it. I have witnessed somebody do this. It didnt end well |
