so today i decided to swap the induction set round. i had 75mm trumpets with an itg sausage filter. i wanted to get low end torque back, hence the change. i ultimately want an induction set up like Robcams etc... but due to not having the aluminium tubing atm, for now i decided to attach the hks to the standard intake where the resonator would normally fit. ive not properly tested the car yet, but first impressions are: with the trumpets, i had lost low end torque and was was given a sudden rush of power once the engine reached around 5-6 k revs. although it wasnt extreme. now that i have installed the hks mushroom filter, low end torque has seemed to come back, theres no umph of power at the higher rev range. overall, the acceleration is smoother and the car seems to rev quicker across the range, instead of mainly around 5-6k with the trumpets. im liking the quicker revs, however gives less of an impact as far as excitement is concerned. hopefully when i use some piping tomorrow, the airflow will be a lot better, giving a better result. thought id upload a picture of the trumpets on just for the sake of it

Good little write up. Got to be carefull with trumpet selection by the looks of it. Though would have thought a 75mm trumpet wouldn't take away too much torque! Maybe the plenum plays just as much a role in keeping low-mid range torque as the correct length trumpets do

It's generally known that open trumpets lose power on this car, it pushes your max power past the rev limit |

How does the short trumpets in the plenum compare? |

Still not that great... I think Toyota did a great deal of tuning concerning the plenum and trumpet length + angle... Without significant alterations to the engine, power/torque loss is inevitable... Intake doesn't affect that much cause it was well pathetic in factory form lol... Edited by DreadAngel, Jun 24 2011, 10:07 AM.

thanks yeah, you cant just whack them on. i think that if you had decent sized trumpets in the plenum, combined with a cai and pod/mushroom filter in the bumper, you'd see a nice result. probably just no loss of torque and a faster revving car. its a shame about the curvature of the plenum. if it was the same depth all the way across, i would of been able to fit the trumpets in too, to see what what would be like. |

yeah, toyota definitely put some work into the intake. kinda annoying really because all effort made by owners are mostly pointless unless of course you spend loads of money...... |

Well the intake manifold/plenum and trumpets are tuned but the rest of it like the intake box is no good, the feed is pathetic... |

Yeah which is why im thinking once i get a nice cai in place of the standard intake feed, the hks behing the bumper will be a fair bit better |
