Hey. Sorry if this has been discussed before. I think my gearbox is on the way out from the day i got the car in nov 2009 it would grind goin from 5th to 3rd, then when winters cold came around again, it would grind changin down to 3rd no matter what gear i was in when cold. Now since the start of this year the diff has started whining when turnin and applying drive(doesnt when free wheeling) and it also grinds goin into 3rd when cold, no matter what kind of weather is out. So judgin from that the gearbox is on the way out but i cant afford to change it at the moment as i have other things that need attention first. so im just wonderin if i would get a bit longer out of the gearbox by changin the oil to a stronger type and if so what one shud i get?? |

This may sound a bit crazy but I have learnt through experience that if you use automatic transmission fluid it take most of the harshness away if not all away. I'm using that at the moment and made a miraculous difference. When you think about it, an auto transmission has a lot more moving parts than a manual gearbox does and with the atf being so thin it can get into the slots and grooves much easier and help prevent gear crunching. |

I wouldn't put in ATF fluid, it's so thin it's like water |
