Hey guys, 2 mechanics have looked at my car and concluded that the mechanism circled is at fault, does anyone know what it is exactly and if it's possible to fix myself?

there's this whining rattling noise, like if a ball bearing is worn sound, it's only when i rev it about 3K RPM, when i press clutch in it stops... there's also a squeak coming from the gearbox when in idle.. i don't have any issues with changing gears etc. |

Like the videos you posted it is the clutch release bearing by the sound of it. My best suggestion would be don't be scared and just do the job yourself. Just think about things logically, look at everything and take your time and you will be fine. It just wants a full clutch change as there's no point taking it all apart and not fitting a new clutch. |

ahh unfortunately i don't quite feel confident in doing it, i have a workshop that takes care of me so it's likely i will take it there.. would either of these clutches fit? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Exedy-Clutch-kit-Toyota-Corolla-AE93-AE101-AE102-AE111-AE112-/330687026868?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cfe7b96b4#ht_520wt_1163 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EXEDY-CLUTCH-TOYOTA-COROLLA-1-6L-AE93-AE101-AE111-/160601558827?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2564994f2b#ht_500wt_1413 |

yeah clutch release bearing, and i will say that its not that thing that you circled ... the barins is around the propshaft infront of your clutch. i got the same prob with mine. will need fixing but at the moment its not life or death so hold off for a while till you need or can afford it done. also if your getting it done its worth replacing the entire clutch too since the total cost is about 150 in parts and 90 of that is the bearing. job should cost about 300... (Euro) i dont know if those 2 that you showed would fit, and not sure i would rist it either. 180 for it? seems a little on the cheap side too. could be a fake, real deal is about 3 times that (RHD) Edited by dub-levin, Mar 14 2012, 07:41 AM.
