exessive sooty condensation from exhaust

Hey guys

My Trueno has been spitting loads of black water out of my exhaust everytime i rev it/drive it. Its just sooty condensation so I'm not overly concerned, I just was curious to know if there was a way to stop it doing it :)
My folks are up in arms about the mess it makes in their garage, hence the curiosity ha ha.

It has always done it since I bought it, and still does it after my new engine was put in.

Has anyone else experienced this?

not really that much.
do you have a decat fitted.
what is she getting to a tank ?
is she warming up properly?

factory cat is still there. (restricting things a fair bit but Australian laws are strict when it comes to removing them :()

hard to say what im getting per tank as ive just installed new engine and i've just finished running it in. I'm guessing around 350 - 400km at the moment but its a high comp 12.2:1 engine with big cams so my fuel economy is going to suffer anyway ha ha.

Used to get 500 -600km per tank with the old engine tho.

I always let it warm up before I go anywhere.

I can go for a drive for an hour or more and it'll still spit the sooty water.

Could just be due to high compression and the tune?

Did they give you any AFR read outs?

If its doing that then it is clearly not running right, very rich by the sounds of it. Either that or you could perhaps have a blockage in your exhaust buy that isn't exactly likely. Take it back to where you got it tuned!

was doing the same before the engine was swapped

new engine was running very rich tho, went and got it leaned out at idle this arvo.

No they didn't give me any AFR read outs but I'll talk to the guy tomorrow

Does your car burn oil? My first Levin started burning a lot of oil and I'd always get this black residue on my bumper

I wouldnt have thought it wouldbe burning oil especially after the rebuild + it was happening before the rebuild, could just be soot from the cat / exhaust system getting 'washed out' by the condensation??

what was the head like before the build, are you loosing any coolant?

you say that you park your car in the garage, is that quite a cool / damp place, i.e. underground? does it happen when you start the car when it has been parked outside in the open?

exhaust is fujitsubo super ex headers, factory cat custom straight through exhaust from cat back. Running an Adaptronic Ecu

Doesn't burn any oil. And theres no residue or discolouration on my bumper.

Not losing any coolant.

Its parked in a garage every night. Does get a little cool in there but I'm in Australia so its not getting overly cold and its certainly not damp in there.

Happens everytime i run the car.

I can wait until its lunchtime and 30 degrees C out and it'll still do it.

I believe its just soot being washed out from the cat.
I just don't know why I'm getting so much condensation in there...
Even after driving...

got a tank full of shit bp 98 at the mo so we had to dial in a bit more fuel across 2500 - 4000 RPM to keep pinging at bay :(

Running octane booster in the tank has helped a lot

So I guess I could lean it back out a little now I've confirmed it was a bad batch of fuel

What I don't get is that it did the same with the old engine.

Is there a sensor somewhere that could be screwy telling it to dump more fuel through?

Could be your oxygene / lambda sensor thats not in tip top condition.
But when the sensor is broken, you will defenitly notice that the car runs extremely poor.

What you can do is check how fast the liquid evaporates. or put a flame to it & see if its burns. Then you know for sure if its petrol or water :-)

evaporates too fast to light it so I'm going to say its fuel

also with it being a new engine im not sure how it would run if its running poor.

I know its not making the power i was expecting tho, so I guess it could be a sensor throwing off the tune

when was it mapped last and what was the afr when it was done?

Unplug the 02 sensor and see if it makes much of a difference? Sounds like it is running very rich!!!
