Wondering if anyone from New Zealand can help me with this one. Got everything I need to fit my new seats in my 111, but I've only just realized you can't legally mount the seatbelt stalk to the mount anymore, ( when did that change?... ). What's involved in mounting it to the tunnel, and are there any requirements when mounting it? Is there any other way of fitting them? Was reading this little piece on the low volume website, "Bracketing the seatbelt buckle to the seat anchorage, using a piece of 40mm x 3 mm flat bar, usually about 100 to 150mm long, drilled for the 7/16 seatbelt bolt at one end, and drilled to fit the seat mounting bolt (usually M10) at the other" . What exactly does this mean? Any help would be appreciated thanks .

From reading that, I'd say that what it is requiring is that the seatbelt stalk be mounted to the same point as your seat is. The assumption is that your seat anchorage is very robust, and as such, you can attach your seatbelt there safely. From my reading, it is suggesting that a length of flat bar stock (industry term for rectangular section) steel of around 40mm wide, 3mm thick and between 100 and 150mm long can be used to connect your seat mounting point to your seat belt stalk base. The standard size for your seat belt fixing bolt is 7/16" according to the LVVTA. The M10 size listed for the seat mounting bolt must be a common size for seat mountings. I guess you'd just use a longer bolt to attach the seat to the rail, with the steel bar between them. At the other end, you'd bolt the existing seatbelt stalk through the steel bar. That's only a guess, as I've never used aftermarket seats, but that's my take on it. |

Easiest option: Go see your local certifier with what you have (car and rail) and ask what needs to be done. I guess you have a bride style rail not an oem style? A photo might be useful. so this required a cert and alternative mounting for the buckle ![]() and these do not ![]() |

Thats what I took from it as well, however I don't see how you can get a 3mm piece of steel between the rail and seat without altering the alignment of the holes/ angling the seat. Just a little confused as to how exactly they expect it to be done. Rob, yea my bride rails are like the top ones, where the bracket for the belt is welded to the mount, however it is illegal to mount it here apparently. Was just wondering if someone could more easily explain what the second option I originally posted is saying, as I want to avoid mounting the belts to the tunnel of the car. yeah so (blue bit is steel plate)![]() And you will need to "bend / straighten" the lh rear corner or the seat rail to allow for the extra 3mm. |
