I was looking at a few 20v pictures the other day only to realise that one of them was about various sensors on the car including a knock sensor Now I do know what a knock sensor does and how it works but what im trying to work out is how does the ecu retard or advance timing on a distributor type ignition setup? Coz as far as I can tell the dizzy is a mechanical system and can't be changed electronically, so whats the point of a knock sensor? Thanks |

Hook a timing light up without putting a clip in the diagnostic port. Then try adjusting the timing. |

Like a carb car with a vacuum advancer the ecu will adjust the timing unless you set it correctly by putting the pin in the diagnostic plug. |

I may be wrong but I didn't think that the ecu controlled the vacuum advance? The only other way to change timing as far as i know is to change the springs and weights inside and the ecu can't control that Not trying to be a smart arse, just wanna know exactly how the ecu alters timing |
