that sounds phenomenal, a ECU to do all the work, although tbh never heard of one got any links? couldnt find anything when i googled it but everytime i found something on a forum it was to do with starlet/glanza crowd.

sounds interesting but either a little too good to be true or super pricey equipment

JAM Racing ECU?

Even if its self-learning, it'll be preloaded for JP conditions...

Self-learning can only learn within a set parameter after that they're unable to 'alter' the mapping

Thats just a late nineties Japanese chipped ECU, just the same as any other brand such as mines of HKS etc... The fact that it says "Self learning" on doesn't mean anything! It is self learning in just the same way that the OE ECU is self learning.

It won't really be of any use what so ever, it will be programmed for Japanese conditions and 100 Ron fuel plus it's out dated technology. If you want to upgrade your ECU then there is really way apart from going for a fully stand alone item such as Link or Omex etc...

agreed to super to some extent.
it probabley will have a fairly aggresive map. but should run on irish fuel if you retard the timing.
the main problem is what it was set up for if its set up close to standard spec you may get a bit of a jump in power. if its set up for 300 degrees cams your car will barely move with it

ended up buying this ecu in the end havent put it in the car yet would it be advisable to sell it on or try it out it raises the rev limit to 8,800rpm and delimits the car, my mate got a toms ecu for his silvertop 20v and its runs well, would they be along the lines of the same ecu, and yes i no 8,800rpm i wont be testing it out

If it was me I would book a rolling road run, install the ecu and take a little drive to the rollers and run it and see or just sell it to me lol

My brother's Trueno used to have a Japanese chipped ECU by Cerumo, and it worked perfectly fine, with no issues. It is not that easy for a NA to have these types of problems. You will see problems if the chip was for a high spec 20v engine, which I believe you will not find something like this.. For a high spec engine, they go with a full standalone ECU.
If I was you, I would try it. If you see any problems, just remove it. I don't believe that you will have any problems. By the way, ALL ECUs of our cars are programmable for 100 RON fuel, since they built only in Japan.. It doesn't mean that it is not working with fuel with lower octane; it will has only a lower output. This is the reason why many people are using octane boosters during a dyno test! To get better results!

The ecu is just a chipped stock ecu right?
Id take your centre console off to make it easier to access the ecu
Take it to a dyno, do 2 runs with stock ecu and then do 2 runs with the new ecu
Compare the difference and then decide if its worth keeping

Im 99% sure that you will benefit more from a standalone ecu though, as you can always tune it to compensate for any changes you make to the car
