ok the new scion FR-S, toyota 86, GT86 subaru BRZ etc has a sound generator piping which connects the intake to the cabin to enhance the engine noise for the keen automotive enthusiast to wet his underpants over. What i was thinking is this could be a possible modification done to the ae111 and the blacktop engine. So we can achieve ITB noise!(refer to tsuchiya san's 86) without the disadvantages/required tuning and issues with running open stacks, trumpets etc without a plenum. what i was thinking is we could run piping from the little resevoir on the piping between the air/filter box and the plenum, and feed that into the cabin somehow. however would this cause induction of air from the cabin? (meaning it would require a filter). does anyone know much about the design of the 86 sound generator piping? thoughts? |

ok so after some quick research I found that the same "technology" is being utilised in the lexus LFA, a few BMW models and some other european make models to synthesise an appealing engine noise. there are also these for the BRZ etctec http://www.86forums.com.au/index.php?/topic/673-trd-cabin-sound-tubes/ playing around with the design and chamber volumes etc (which i saw in some BMW versions) to alter the sound u get, pretty iffy stuff defintely not functional but something interesting to look into

ok so all that is needed is a diaphragm which will prevent induction but still tranfer sound, if i can get some stuff from a wreckers for an ok price i may give this a go |

To be honest it just sounds a bit corney to me....I'd heard about it being used on other cars but like I say it doesn't do anything for me! It is in my opinion for people who think they like cars but don't really and just want to drive around the city centre trying to show off, anyhow just my opinion! |
