my doors lock themselves

hey all, i had a bit of a search, and it seems that my 2000 bzg should have central locking with a keyfob. however there is no keyfob with mine, so i lock the doors with the key.

a strange thing happens tho... when the engine is on, the doors lock themselves. it seems like this happens after the car starts moving.

the bad thing about it is, i dare not get out of the car with the engine on, unless i wind down the drivers window, for fear of locking myself out of the car.

is there any way to disable this auto locking?

thanks for reading,
redd .

This is a safety feature that happens when you put it in gear i think. I'm pretty sure it wont lock itself on the idle though.

Has the car got an alarm system fitted?

I know my other car has one that locks the doors once I pump the brakes. Just throwing it out there. :P

My alarm has a hijack system so if you turn on the engine and close the door within 5 seconds it locks the doors....whether you are in it or not. This happened a couple of times before so i always have a spare car key on my other set of keys
