I wouldn't be too sure of that. Madison won in 1812 even though the war was going very badly. Monroe didn't even face opposition in 1820 even though the country had gone into a depression the year before. An FDR victory wouldn't be a lock, but a landslide against him is out of the question. You don't grasp how much intense devotion the man generated if you think that. Of course you're not the first to make that mistake. The guy who wrote Portnoy's Complaint, who really should have known better, screwed up horribly with his Lindberg gets elected AH novel. |

If the US troops where massacured in France and forced to retreat from Dunkirk then the Republicans might have been able to portray him as a war-mounger and communist sympathizer. Lindbergh could have even said "We where on the wrong side" |

1 I am a god among men and run the biggest alternate history site. I've banned more people than have ever joined this forum or any of its predecessors. 2 Yes you have. You attempted to try using one on me. Just sit back, shut up and work. People like you are peons in our corporatized world so accept it. Or at the very least accept us liberals who get you benefits like socialized medicine. | |

Churchill managed to turn Dunkirk into a plus. FDR should have had no problem doing that. |

FDR could spin it. He knew history and knew that in most US wars (the Mexican War and WWI being the main exceptions) the USA took it on the chin quite a bit at first. As we did OTL in WWII for that matter, with Pearl Harbor, Kasserine Pass, etc. |
