I was just poking around on good old Uchronia, apparently HT has teamed up with a TV producer (Bryce Zabel, I've seen some of his stuff), to do a 'JFK survives assassination' story.

The premise seems fairly logical. The same shots ring out in Dallas, but they miss. When the country (and the Congress) ask "Who would want to kill our president?" the resulting investigation unearths many things that OTL took decades to come to light.

Here's the Uchronia link:

What's very cool is that HT and Zabel have put tons of the story info on Zabel's site:

I know that project was dependent upon selling it as a film. Since they never actually finished it, I'm assuming they never sold the film.

An excerpt from chapter one, part two:

Quote:

He walked over to his desk, fed a sheet of paper into the typewriter, and wrote from his notes:  Governor John Connally of Texas was assassinated in Dallas this afternoon.  Connally is the first governor ever to be murdered while in office.  Also slain was Secret Service agent Clinton J. Hill.  The Secret Service was present because Connally was riding in a motorcade with President Kennedy.  The President was not injured in the attack on Connally.

That's not true. William Goebel, governor of Kentucky for a few days in 1900, was the first governor to be murdered while in office.

Perhaps that error will be corrected if it's ever completed. Or maybe it's a plot point somehow?

If it's ever completed. It's been nearly a year since anything new was posted there.

A shame. JFK PODs are usually prime material.

I almost started a DBWI on Kennedy the other night, but decided to go to sleep instead.

I'm having a hell of time thinking of any I've read. The WooD web site hints that JFK is a bit of a third-rail in AH. People still romanticize him to the point that this project was a difficult sell.

Personally I find that a little hard too believe, given HT is a proven seller in AH coupled with the fact that AH is still more of a niche market.

In light of the foregoing, maybe sleeping was a better use of your time.

I also didn't want to see the thread get ripped apart by people who don't understand the nature of DBWI.

The nature of my thread would've been more exploratory of the Nixon Administration in the 60s than of JFK's OTL term. Thus, the DBWI.

Are there that many people on the board devoted to one or the other?

One or the other what? JFK or Nixon? WI or DBWI?

Given the generally-leftist slant of the board, I wouldn't think Nixon was the preferred choice of many. Can't say about JFK.

I think most of us are aware enough of the history that we aren't so romantic about the man.

Agreed. Quoted for truth.

The Man likes him; probably for being big with the ladies. That's why he loved WJC so much.

Speaking of the Man and 60s politics: he got a pair of horn-rimmed glasses that, along with having balding, gray-white hair, make him resemble Barry Goldwater.

Hah!

I have been curious to see a picture of the Man for some time. Now would be a good time to post one.
