Why didn't HT give the war in RE a name?; Just a random thought to start a thread

I know Tl-191 fatigue has set in. I also know that this thread is likely to sink or be threadjacked.

But, out of curiosity, does anyone have any thoughts on why HT never adopted a name for what we call the Second Great War? In fact, HT almost seemed to taunt the reader by steadfastly not giving it a name.

I think HT had TL-191 fatigue himself, and it was just something he didn't bother with. There was a lot of laziness in the storytelling in the last installments of that series.

True, but he had characters pontificate on the name of the war. It would have been less work to call it something. I don't think laziness is the cause there.

I chalk it up more to fucking with his fanbase.

C'mon, why make a fuss over it? Just make a choice: either JW II or WW II. :P

Intellectual laziness -- actually deciding between several options is work -- an editing kind of work, which is the sort HT seems to hate most. He can churn out the verbiage, but culling it down...

Ah. I thought there might've been a joke in there that I missed.

I'm not complaining exactly. More gratuitously generating a thread for the purpose of getting people to post.

Since they already have the 'War of Secession,' perhaps they will bookend it with the 'War of Reunification.'

That has a ring to it, even if not terribly accurate.

Of course, Second Mexican War only makes vague sense, so it's not as if TL-191 has track record of sensibly naming their wars.

I really like TGfF's idea. Maybe someone will come around now and correct the history books. The War of Secession will henceforth be called The Civil War. Also, since secession and the cause of States' Tights failed, let's, from now on, say "the United States is. . ." instead of "the United States are." How's that for a revolutionary idea? :)

The War of Reunification isn't really sufficient because of all the other powers involved. That won't necessarily stop them though.

However I'd go with "the Great Patriotic War" myself. With so much else twee, why stop now?

That's such a quintessentially Russian name. Even HT wouldn't be that twee.
