I'd like to see some more short stories involving one Basil Argyros.

I'd like to see more stories set in Basil's universe, but I'm not sure I'd want them to involve him personally. How many technological innovations and major historical events can revolve around one guy, anyway?

Skip ahead a few years, maybe a couple of decades, and give us a look at the Byzantine empire after the printing press, gunpowder, vaccination, and the general strike have had time to work their social changes. I'd love to see the impact of those changes on what was after all a very conservative culture, one where the political situation had been frozen more or less in place for something like 700 years.

I may be a glutton for punishment, but I wouldn't mind seeing more of TL-191, br4inging it to the end of the 20th century. :o

I agree.

:ph43r: Stirling's The Sky People would be pretty good to continue, too. I know he's supposed to come out with a Mars book soon, but I hope he continues it for more than just one book for each planet. :P

I hope so, too. I'd like some more insight into Earth politics, actually.

I got the impression that Earth politics were pretty dull. It seemed that sooooo much energy/time/effort/money was spent on space colonization that most things close to home were on the back burner. I believe the last conflict of note was some little dust-up between Israel and its neighbors in '67. But, the superpowers quietly (but bluntly) informed the parties that they would no longer tolerate such shenanigans.

True, there is that.

I'm curious more about e.g. why did Mao die early, that sort of thing.

I got the impression that was a case of Stirling fudging a bit on the 'One POD Per Alt-TL' Rule.

However, if you're implying that perhaps there was foul play, it's possible. There was the espionage sub-plot in The Sky People that was left hanging. So, maybe we will get more hints in later volumes.

I was flipping through Curious Notions, the only "Crosstime Traffic" book I own, and I realized that HT could very easily use that series to back-door-sequel other TLs. He's even hinted at doing that, referring to alternates where the South won the Civil War, the Nazis won, the Spanish Armada won.

I take it you are suggesting HT could set a "Crosstime Traffic" book in 2100 TL-191 giving fans of the series an epilogue novel set in the timeline's far future. I might even read that.

Or one set in the world where the Rivington men helped the south win the Civil War. Imagine cross-time technology combined with conventional time travel.

Well, since the respective series are published by different publishers, I wouldn't hope for that right away. Maybe something more oblique like "in one alternate, the CS won, but was reconquered in the 1940s. The US was only now able to reintegrate the states."

I thought time-travel was impossible in Xtime Traffic? It would be fun to see, of course.

It wouldn't surprise me if they've said so. Limiting himself to alternate "presents" makes sense for HT as it adds a certain continuity to the series. However statements like "time travel is impossible" have been proven wrong before. Remember how they used to think you couldn't transmute elements, and then started churning out transuranics? So if he wants to HT can have Crosstime, Inc. find time travel tech in another reality and so give the series more scope. I'm not saying he will, of course (God help me if I turn into a Gizzi), only that he can.

The finagle on this would be to discover that the Rivington men's time travel technology was in fact cross-time tech and they had gone to an alternate.

That stretches credulity. An alternate timeline where people happen to use a dating system 150 years behind, and happen to resemble exactly people who lived 150 years ago on the home time-line? If you're going to combine the two it's much easier to just say that the theory that time travel is impossible is wrong.
