Was bopping around Deviant Art thanks to a tip on AH.com. Found this gem created by JakarNilson.

Link.

Also here's a scene by the same guy depicting a crazy sergeant on the Yankee side, McSweeney.

Gordon.

Oh, I thought you were going to say "Dick Cheney's snarling expression."

The poster said he was a lurker on the Norton Board. I wonder if he lurks here as well.

I don't see the Cheney resemblance.

I don't see the Cheney resemblance.

I was referring to his mouth, it reminded me of the Cheney snarl that I've seen in a picture or a few.

The rest of his face looks nothing at all like the vice president.

So, what about Beardless Snake were you talking about?

The pose, the haircut, the uniform. I'm pretty sure I've seen an illustration or photograph of Hitler in that pose.

Oh, well yeah. But it's also been mentioned on numerous occasions that the Snake wears a butternut uniform. The uniform Potter wears is closer to what I had in mind, with the breast pockets and all - and I wonder why the artist has two different shades of butternut - but Jake's is nicely illustrated. I don't think he ever wore an armband, and IIRC chevrons go on the left sleeve, not the right. I even saw a teeny bit of Lincoln in the boniness and the hair.

Still its one of the best representations of the series I've ever seen. I hope he does more, and it led me to think that instead of a movie or TV series, a comic series wouldn't be a bad idea in and of itself.

Yes, more will be nice.

As an aside, I recall one of our regular posters did some artwork now and again *ahem*.

The colors on the uniforms were somewhat darker than what I think of as butternut.

The colors weren't quite right on the McSweeney picture either -- should have been more greenish from the way the books described US uniforms. I wonder if I can find a picture of Bavarian WWI uniforms relatively easily.

I thought the colors were close. I think in AF the Rebs' butternut uniforms were described as copies, in color and form, of the British khaki.

Re McSweeney: I thought the US Great War helmets were steel pots, not stahlheims. They developed the damn thing first, after all.
