I could see TL-191 making a great graphic series too. |

AH is starting to make the rounds in comics a little more. Rex Mundi is set in a world where the Reformation never took place. I've never read it, but it's quite the beloved series. Watchmen was an AH, of course. Then you have unfortunate little projects like Alter Nation, with Steam-punk German Empire conquering the US in the 19th century, and heroes such as hunky Sam Clemens, gorgeous Annie Oakley, and cyborg pre-teen Billy the Kid battling Dark Lord of the Sith Edgar Allan Poe. |

The writer didn't seem all that interested in plausibility, so he created a gigantic anachronism with historical figures overlapping at incorrect times, with steam-punk super-science everywhere. If it had been a quality product, I might have been able to go with the flow. But they mispelled the artist's name in the cover credits of the first issue, which just underscored the likelihood that the creators just threw something together without doing much research or planning. |

Doesn't sound as cool as Tales from the Bully Pulpit, with one of the best lines ever spoken by Abraham Lincoln: "I'm going to emancipate your teeth!" |

Oh, no, not even close. TFTBP was a quiet little classic. Everyone should have read that. No one should have read Alter Nation. |

Scott McCloud's New Adventures of Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite comics -- not actually AH, but brilliantly written. I think I've talked about the DC comic where Superman landed in 19th century Kansas before. And somebody did a graphic novel of David Brin's "Thor Meets Captain America" which to this day I'm kicking myself for not buying. |

comics thread spillover: Just today I read a Cap story that took place in a timeline where his being frozen resulted in a complete Axis victory over all nations in WW2, and all the silver age heroes had formed a resistance cell to combat Reichsfuhrer Red Skull. Not bad. |

Somehow I don't think Herr Reichsmarshall Goering or Herr Fuhrer Hitler would appreciate a Reichsfuhrer Red Skull unless they're too dead to care. |

Ah yes the fantastic 'Cap Lives!' story arc. One of the best pre-Brubaker story lines of the past decade (the best part is that the story was intended to be a filler). The Red Skull rules from New Berlin (NYC) after he was nearly killed after an assassination attempt in Dallas (he has a robotic arm and leg). This is why every time I find myself with a can of spray paint in my hands I write 'Cap Lives!' True patriots get it. |
