Oh. Well I learn something new everyday. I thought you were in your late 20s.

That puts you over Makkabee, Eamon, and possibly Darwin and TeddyJake. BigNate might be older.

He is at least 29.

There was someone named HTFan, at some point. He was really old, like 50+. If I'm remembering.

I forgot all about him.

But BigNate, if the 1953 at the end of his name from the EZboard is any clue, would be the oldest guy here.

Numbers don't mean so much.

I have my year of birth in my e-mail. I never saw much point to lying about my age but now that I live in a Confucian country I do. Everyone thinks I'm older than I am because a. years of hard living have taken their toll and b. most 외국 teachers are older anyway. When people learn how young I am they a. stop taking me as seriously as I had been and b. make comments which can easily be translated to "God, you look like hell!" so I avoid the subject whenever possible and try to be vague and coy when it does come up--which it does all the freakin time. These people are obsessed! When I give people my e-mail, if they ask I tell them it's an Orwell tribute even though I'm more an Animal Farm guy.

When students ask me how old I am I usually steal a line from Mark Twain and say "as old as my gums and just a little bit older than my teeth."

The students I don't mind so much, they're easy to fool and they think every age over 20 or even less is old anyway. It's hte adults who piss me off. My answer to both is a straight-faced "A hundred and four" and a rapid topic change which is much more effective with the children.

The students probably wouldn't be able to follow a line like that. If there English were that good they wouldn't be in my classes.

You can never tell, with people on the internet. On the other hand, people who meet me face to face tend to underestimate my age by at least five years.

The impresion I have had of Darwin was that he was about the same age as me. Wasn't he suposed to be a Colonel in the U.S. Army. If so, then in his 40s at least.

He is.
