Yes, I do seem to recall that. That being said, I believe we need large-denomination bills for general circulation in light of the current economic crisis. Of course the printing of such bills is usually an early sign of looming disaster--that's why the RoC refused to print anything above a 10,000 yuan bill during the Chinese Civil War, even when you literally needed wheelbarrowfuls of that bill to do your shopping. |

I don't think we need any larger bills in circulation yet. I can count the times I've seen someone pay cash with a $100 bill on the fingers of one hand. I've been paid with a $50 maybe 3 or 4 times in my whole life. I've seen and made larger transactions, but pretty much everyone who makes such uses checks or credit cards or something other than a wad of bills. |

Yeah, that's true. I rarely have $50 or $100 bills myself. Cash is losing popularity, especially for large purchases, and will continue to lose more as prices climb. |

I usually see two or three $100 bills a day, and a similar number of fifties, but I run a cash register so I'm exceptional. |

I've run cash registers and haven't seen many large ones. I remember one time some jackass tried to buy a $6 purchase with a $100 bill in a convenience store at like 6:30 in the morning and got pissy when we couldn't make change. Who does that? Right after the store opens, no less? Maybe if we printed and circulated $200 and $500 bills, paying cash would regain some popularity. If that worked, it would mean less credit card debt, and that would help get consumer confidence back up. It might not work but I don't see any harm in trying. |

Not unless anti-counterfeiting measures improve. I see plenty of signs in retail stores indicating they won't accept $100 bill for that reason. It would only get worse for $200 and $500. |

The bells and whistles they keep adding to the $50s and $100s are worthless because those bills have an average circulation period of nine years. Show someone a $100 bill printed in 1999 without the watermarks and so forth and no one will be suspicious. At least not for that reason. Hell I saw a 1991 $100 bill not long ago that looked new. I suppose it could have been a counterfeit, but even if it was my suspicions weren't aroused. That's one good thing that could come of the weak dollar, I suppose. If $100s and $50s start circulating more rapidly, anti-counterfeiting measures get easier. |

Youdontwanttoknow seems to have some sense of realsim about him. Heh, he's even from the same city I'm from. Cool. Nobody else really seems to be giving it to him. They're rather dimplomatic, politly explaining that it wouldn't be possible, rather than out right telling him what a compleat and utter Toss-Face he is for coming up with something that looks like Gizzi dreamt in his spare time. I'm learning to be more diplomatic myself these days, although my name calling shows proff I still have a long way to go. |

Name-calling when the other person is not around is diplomatically acceptable. You'll find people who say "Let them say it to my face!" but that's just stupid. Being civil toward people we dislike lies at the heart of diplomacy. Insulting people to their faces is counterproductive. So the only way that sort of brutal honesty could be compatible with diplomacy would be if everyone were friendly with everyone else. Now--Who the hell are the Grand United States? |

MOst likely the union of the United States, the Confederate States, and Canada, all who seem to have some how managed to forget the 80 plus years of bitter hatred and hostility that they all had for each other and work together in some sort of hippy tree-hugging peace movement in order to confront the REAL dangers of the world. Microsoft. |

Reabsorbing the Confederacy doesn't make us the "Grand" United States, it makes us the United States. We always had a right to all of them with the possible exception of Florida. I could theoretically support Floridian secession as a rejection of imperialist maneuvers, but they're the only one. As for Canada--not all that relevant. |
