Actually Nelg I was trying to use sarcasm to call attention to the fact that Cuss was laying a bit of an ambush.

But yeah, Australia sucks.

So, as I mentioned earlier, I'm still rereading the series, and I'm now into HB. And it seems in the end Britain got recognition, too...p.249

Ttomalss is having a conversation with Coffey about equality, and how the Race doesn't seem able to grasp the true concept.

"But that is not so!" Ttomalss protested "We have equal relationships with the United States, with the SSSR, with the Nipponese Empire, with Britain, even the Reich, though we defeated it."

I guess sometime between 1966 and 2030 the British got recognition...about damn time, too. Sadly, though, it seems they are the only independent power without a space program.

The British always had recognition. I guess they finnagled full diplomatic relations. Good for them--they deserve it. Of course, it's all too likely HT just got careless yet again, too.

The fact that they've got no space program says the rest of the known galaxy is getting ready to pass by them at--well, at speeds faster than light.

Frm waht I've gathered so far from reading SC and the first few chapters fo Donw to Earth, it seems that Britain is actually becoming the Reich and "tenously holds their indepedence from the Reich" compared to Japan becoming dependtent on the U.S but their is still a certain level of animosty and the Japanese aren't becoming more domecratic.

It heads that way but the tenuous bit was a tad overstated.

Yes, and it was still a tad overstated.

Sorry buit just seems to me that at that point in SC it ins't so far fetched, The BUF is gaining momentum and Britain has nothing except for being an island. even then, the Reich is closest government to them until France is restablished. It's already been established that they were being left behind, and at that piont in taht point no one expected the Reich to get bitchslapped by the Race. The only thing that makes it overstated is that it was from Goldfarb who is likely to be paranoid about that sort of stuff.

Saying "tenuous" suggests they're a cunthair from becoming a protectorate and two from becoming a colony. That wasn't the case. They were heading toward fascism--weren't there yet--but they remained independent. Look how they rode the German soccer team. More importantly, look how they refused to take part in Kaltenbrunner's attack on the Race and didn't get their asses blown up like Bucharest did,
