All right, what the hell's going on with this book? It's available, only it's not, it's already been released, book stores aren't carrying it? I just want to find the damned thing! And the hell of it is, I wasn't even all that interested in reading it till it became so damned elusive.

By the way, Amazon has a page up on The Breath of God. Apparently Hamnet and Co go north of the glacier to fight the Rulers there and get their asses kicked. Then on the way home they run into a tribe of people (Bizogots, Raumsdalians, someone else--didn't say) whose lives are so grim that they need to resort to cannibalism regularly to keep themselves fed. Despite its desperation there are hints that this tribe will somehow become a valuable ally. When they get back to the capital city Sigvat agrees to commit an army to oppose the Rulers and Hamnet becomes his general. My guess is that sets us up for a dramatic cliffhanger going into The Golden Shrine.

I'm really looking forward to having two Turtledove novels to dive on into back to back this Christmas.

I've been wondering myself where After the Downfall is.

In the meantime - The Valley-Westside War has been in bookstores for a week.

Yeah, but I don't bother with those CrossTime bits. I was reading full-fledged adult novels in the fourth grade and I have no intention of going back to a novel that claims to be a "young adult" novel, whatever that means. Besides, even though I know it's a legitimate storyline I keep thinking of a cheerleader competition gone horribly wrong.

I don't like the cover, with the dustjacket flap reprinted on the front cover, and from reading it (I read all kinds of dustjacket flaps when I'm browsing, no matter how uninteresting I may find a book) I can only thing that were I a true X-time fan I would probably be pretty pissed that he's gone and changed the nature of the eponymous organization, the only thing that gives the series any kind of unity.

That's too bad. Lots of fun ideas in those books (well not Curious Notions, that was just "been there, done that"), and The Gladiator at least stands as one of HT's strongest books in general.

I've been watching some of the Videssos group discussion on that--Xtime is not so altruistic as they let on.

I liked Gunpowder Empire. I thought Curious Notions was kind of meh. Someday I'll find some more of the sequels in the library or a used bookstore or something and read them too.

They've looked intriguing but I don't bite.

Jumping back to the original topic: I know that AtD is published by a company I've never heard of, and one HT has never used. I suspect this a young company that HT is trying to help get going, hence the publishing issues.

Ah. Well the lack of availability is very annoying--for some reason, ordering from Amazon feels like much more of an effort than buying it from a bookstore (even though I'd save money anyway) and I'm just not sure AtD is worh the added effort.

I'm curious, but unless it gets fantastic reviews I'll aim for a library check-out rather than springing for a new hardcover.

Nothing new on whether we'll ever get to see it. But at least the cover got finished.

"National Best Seller"? A bit presumptuous isn't it since the book hasn't even been released yet? Or is that a reference to Turtledove?

About damn time they wrote something on the cover.

Amazon says it's already for sale. This is very irritating.

I've done a comparison of different sources' claims on when this book will (has) come out.

Amazon: June 15; but allow 3-6 weeks for delivery.

Borders: August 15 (Liberation Day in Korea)

Nightshade's Own Website: Coming in July 2008!

Barnes & Noble: No such book has ever or will ever exist.

My Public Library: Some day

I hope HT doesn't use these Nightshade people anymore. They don't seem to know their asses from their elbows.

Word on the street, or in our case AH.com, says that ATD is out in bookstores, with some of the board members already reading it.
