Has anyone looked at FVLMINATA, an alternate history roleplaying game set in a 3rd century Rome that invented gunpowder?

The rules establish magic as real as well, but it looks like that can be easily edited out if you just want a straight AH setting instead of a low fantasy ASB one.

Are you suggesting we do it here?

We could. I'd be willing to run it if people are interested. I've never run a game online before, but I've GM'd tabletop games often enough.

So, is anyone interested in a game set in the Fulminata timeline?

Worth a try. I make no promises about long-term commitment, but I'm intrigued.

I'm more likely to participate in a month or so, once I'm settled in.

Okay, what sort of story would people like to work with here? Something military/spy/action oriented on the frontier? Political intrigue in the capital? Unrest in the provinces? Something a bit more slice of life, like worrying about business dealings and social climbing and such?

Intrigue in the capital coupled with barbarians on the march on the border? That's what undid Rome in the end, after all.

Okay, I'm starting to get some ideas about what to do with this game.

What sort of characters do people want to play? Anything from a slave up to a government official (civil or military) is available. Let me know and I'll write up characters for people and get the adventure started.

If it's germane to the story I'd like to play a Brutus-type character.

Doable. Fairly high-ranking, longs for restoration of the Republic, believes even an able and relatively fair-minded autocrat is still a worse deal than no autocrat at all?

I can set you up with that. You want Senatorial rank, or willing to be an ambitious equestrian? Also, do you want a government post, and if so do you prefer civil or military?

Equestrian would be fine. Civil or military--You know, they both have appeal. Could I maybe be a demobilized veteran who segwayed military success into a civil career, but maintains unofficial contacts in the military? Or would that give me an unfair advantage.

What is the general situation beyond Rome having gunpowder? Do you still have the period of the barracks emperors tearing the Empire into lots of tiny pieces?

The Age of the Antonines has continued, and emperors adopt men they perceive to be able successors. The relative stability of the second century has continued into the third. Commodus tried to grab the throne when daddy wouldn't hand it to him and got squashed right quick.

Rome holds the territory it had in Trajan's day, plus Scotland, Ireland (though in the latter case Rome's control doesn't really extend past the two cities/legionary camps they established), and Ethiopia(just added a few years ago). Also the German frontier is at the Elbe, not the Rhein.

Seaborne trade with India's becoming more important now that Rome has better Red Sea ports. The Persians aren't happy about this.

Jack, since ambitious politicians in Rome usually did stints in the army before aiming at elected office it makes perfect sense for you to have done a tour in the legions as a tribune before seeking elective office. We can work with that, no problem.
