Sorry about being away, had to get internet hooked up in new apartment. Anyway, I like the idea of some minor involvement of the Gods, I'm thinking actually for the patron of mine possibly being Wotan since the Romans did allow worship of local Gods as long as said worship didn't endanger the Roman state and Wotan would make sense for a warrior and leader of soldiers. As far as Herman goes I'm going to poke around a bit, look at how widely shared his opinion on the matter is, and consult with the Priests of Wotan as to their opinions on the matter. |

LHB: Okay. But backtracking a bit, on the night you found Hermann and his friends at the biergarten and followed them out, when they split into two groups (Hermann and one guy heading back into the German part of town, the other two into the Roman section), did you follow Hermann, go into the Roman neighborhood, or decide you were done for the evening? The priests of Wotan aren't keen on temples to Roman gods going up in the area, but if the Romans aren't threatening sites sacred to the Aesir they can't think of any excuse to stop it. The more radical ones were thrilled that the Romans were planning to build at the sacred oak grove, it gave them a chance to rally a lot of moderates and accomodationists to their side, but now that the Prefect has backed down (that's how they look at it, anyway) the radicals are isolated again. At this point some of them just want to focus on convincing the Germans not to worship in Roman temples -- let that be for just the Roman immigrants. |

We'll just keep the character sheets between us. I've been letting people play without character sheets up til now, just having them give me a basic backgound for their characters and then specifying their actions. For the others, anyone who wants a formal character sheet let me know and I'll write one up for you in accordance with the rule book. Also, I think Eamon's dinner party would be an excellent place to introduce sailorrob's character into the game, as long as Eamon has no objection. |

It would be interesting to take a gander at a character sheet but we've been playing so informally up till now . . . So radical German clerics are looking for a confrontation over sacred matters and that failing want to keep Germans from worshipping the Olympians. I'll have to look for opportunities to create more Aesir-Olympian hybrids like Venus-Freya and recruit German clergy like Waltraud to promote the new cults. Welcome Rob. |

I think I'll follow Hermann and his friends, after all I look like them more or less anyway so I'm not that likely to get caught (I hope) |

The two guys who head into the Roman part of town look just as German as Hermann. But at any rate, if you follow Hermann, he and the fellow accompanying him go to the temple of Neorth, god of the sea. They tell the priest there that as men who make their living from the sea, they've been paying tribute to Neorth for years and they expect him to help them out now that lean times are coming for the dock-workers. (Again, all this happened before Sladeus made his deal with Waltraud). For anyone interested in a list of Germanic gods' names, I'm using thisWikipedia entry for now, and will most likely be using the Old German rather than the Norse forms of the names (Wotan rather than Óðinn, that sort of thing). |

Not being as familiar OOC with the worship of Neorth, are there any known militant/violent sects or cults associated with that God in a similar fashion to Wotan's barsarks? |

Thanks for the link, if we get heavily involved with the German gods my knowledge will not take me far at all. (You'd think serving with them for years would have taught me a thing or too.) |

You're welcome. The Roman army tended to encourage the auxiliaries to acculturate into Rome more than the other way around, so you wouldn't be expected to become an expert on Germanic religion. Between that and your current civil post you'd likely pick up the basics, but those wiki links will probably be adequate. If they're not I'll do some more serious research, or maybe just make something up. |

The banquet preperations are complete and I shall expect Sladeus and his entourage's arrival shortly. Gustus will include green olives, black olives, cheeses, piping hot sausages, fresh breads and my favorite dormice, dipped in honey and rolled in poppy seed. Lena will consist of suckling pigs, fish, poultry and beef with fish sauce. Secundae mensae will have fruits, nuts, honey cakes and sweet wines. If you require anything else all you have to do is ask. |
